    Description

Hello, we have an exotic fruit farm with over 2500 rare tropical fruiting trees lovingly cared for by three generations of the same family. Our farm is nestled in the heart of Cape Tribulation on 88 acres. Approximately 30 acres are under orchard, the balance of which is hillside rainforest and lowland rainforest, mangrove and beachfront. We also have farmstay cabins. At the farm we are “off grid”. This means we do not enjoy the benefits of mains power, mains water, mobile phones, high speed broadband, rubbish collection… many of the things one takes for granted in city/suburban living. Solar provides approximately 98% of our power needs. Water is gravity fed from the mountain. We compost and mulch all of our green waste. We have chickens, ducks and two loved dogs as well as a vege garden and small nursery. We are committed to Natural Farming.

We are experimenting with organic fertilisers like compost tea. We also do grafting and markotting of good variety trees found on the farm. Each member of the family on the Farm has a specific interest (for example Merran has an interest in native Australian stingless bees and is developing hives that she uses for pollinating around the farm). We are very happy to share these interests with you. We also do Fruit Tasting on the farm so that the public can visit and learn about the 70+ types of fruit we grow. You are welcome to join in the Fruit Tasting Tour.

  • Help

    Help

We are looking for volunteers to help with mulching, small project work like painting, planting and cleaning. We expect you to help us for four to five hours per day with two days off per week. Happy with a single person or a couple who are able to stay for a minimum of 2 weeks. You need to be independent and trustworthy as we will not always be close by. You do not need experience with farming or to be a professional, just willing to learn and enthusiastic.

You will have your own 'Bush Hut' on the edge of the rainforest which is fully screened from insects. There is a double bed and a shared bathroom. Free accommodation and all meals are provided (shared cooking and cleaning up). We are a family farm and you will share the evening meal with us. You will help preparing the meals and if you have special dietary requirements, please bring your own ingredients.

You will have free time each afternoon to explore beautiful beaches, rainforest walks and swimming holes or to try out some of the different tours in the area. It is a ten minute walk from the farmhouse to the beach. The Mount Sorrow hiking trail begins on the northern boundary of our farm. There is no public transport at Cape Tribulation so having your own car would give you more flexibility. We are 2 1/2 hours drive north of Cairns Airport. So, if you are ready for a unique experience in an amazing location, please get in contact with us!
