    Description

NGO can't have international volunteers, only travellers from India can volunteer at village Shiva, Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. Friends from abroad can also visit us and explore the area and culture, but as per the regulation of government no voluntary work allowed for foreign nationals on Tourist Visa.

Our NGO is working at a hilly village of district Doda, Jammu & Kashmir. We are running community library at village Shiva. It has free access to all. We are also working with girls (aged 13 to 20 years) of the village. With female students our emphasis is on 21st century skills, girls are learning Computer operating skills and English Communication at our place. We also work with young kids (3 to 8 years).
We need volunteers for four projects
    1., a community Library
    2. Teaching computer and communication to girls of village
Both these projects are run by NGO
    3. A primary school, affliated by J&K Government, where we have 26 kids of age 3 to 11. And about 90% parents can't contribute the full school fees.

(P.S - This is not Kashmir region, village Shiva is situated in the downhills of Himalayas. Jammu Kashmir is a diverse state, our culture, geography is different from both Jammu and Srinagar)

    Thanks

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Doda, Bhaderwah & Kishtwar area of Jammu & Kashmir posses a rich cultural heritage. We are entirely different from rest of the regions of state. Have a unique culture, language and cuisine. The area also represent cultural diversity of the region. The language spoken here is also unique, It is a Indo-aryan language, having many preserved sounds of ancient languages. The traveler will definitely have an amazing experience being here.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

There are no hotels or any other private rest places in our village. Traveler will have to stay at the home of locals. Organization is responsible for the accomodation of volunteers, without any charge.

Food will not be provided by the organisation. Travelers/volunteers are expected to cook the food themselves or take paid services for the food.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

My place is a tough hilly zone, travel to the village is really tiring, also we lack even some basic facilities. There will be no luxury in terms of food and accommodation. Sometimes volunteers will be expected to cook for themselves (will provide cooking material) . We don't have access to broadband internet connection, sometimes mobile Internet speed is too low. Also the prepaid sim from outside Jammu and Kashmir will not be functional here. There are many unexplored beautiful sites we have here. Our area is perfect for tracking. Transport is definitely an issue here. Public transport is not consistent. For private transport fare is quite high.
