  • Description

    Salut ! Hola! Hello! 你好!Ciao!
    I'm Ran, from Barcelona.

Back in 2014, the Summer before going to university, I decided to go interrailing. When I realised I would run out of funds before reaching the border... I bought a bicycle and followed the train instead. By the time orientation day came, I was nowhere near a classroom but somewhere in Norway. From there... I simply continued onwards, towards the rising sun.

After crossing 35 different countries, by the end of 2015 I had landed in China for what I thought would be a short stopover. As unexpected as life is... I learned some trades, studied Chinese at university, almost married a local and one day I woke up... and 4 years had passed!

Then I had to leave, the pandemic came and I used the opportunity to work, work, and work some more at the same time I finished my degree. It was hard but very rewarding and I treated myself with a Working Holiday in Japan... and, unexpectedly, I know, I ended up staying there for 2 years and turning 29 myself!

With 1 year left before I can no longer say "I'm pushing 30", I've decided to come back to Europe, settle down and find a place to call home. Not sure where that will be, so let's see where Workaway takes me!

    See ya!

Honestly, I'm the definition of a jack of all trades, master of none. Let me give you a few examples:

    - I can put together a bicycle piece by piece, including the tiny bits. I guess by extension I know how to build an IKEA cupboard without leaving a single screw laying around. By the way... did you know the left pedal has to be screwed counter-clockwise? Otherwise, when the axle snaps in two, you might find yourself with a broken right pedal in the middle of the mountains, on a Sunday, under 35 degrees and a blazing sun, pushing your bike up and riding down for 5h straight until someone takes pity on you.
    - I make killer bread and pizza from scratch (learned at an Italian restaurant in China, of all places). If you have a recipe, I can cook it, otherwise I know enough to make food taste good with just a bit of garlic and some herbs. Still can't fry a sunny side egg without a shield and sword, though.
    - My grandmother has a garden with over 50 different species of vegetables... so I know how to water plants and trim bushes? Hydrangeas need a lot of water, but don't all plants?
    - I know how to use a computer in a boring office environment and also for graphic and website design (although it's been years! Skill not guaranteed)
    - I enjoy being outdoors and the sun and heat doesn't bother me as much as the cold (I've ran a few times in snowy conditions with a pair of shorts, though). I'm not particularly strong, but I will never hesitate to do something or ask how and will deal with it in the smartest way possible. I'm not a complainer: if something has to be done, it has to be done.
    - I speak many languages but have never really tried teaching them...Potentially unknown skill there?
    - I'm clean and organised... If that counts as a skill. I don't mind a crumb here or there, but I think only sleep-deprived, working parents, taking care of toddlers are allowed to have messy homes. Wash as you cook, spoons on the left, forks on the right, knives somewhere where children can't reach!
