    Description

Hi! We are Lafi and Lea.

We are a married couple living in a tiny village on a 1 ha land since 2024, in the east of Germany, with our dog and our chickens. Do not expect to find a city with electrifying nightlife - we live in a small village just outside a small town. Coming here is more about appreciating the slower pace of life and interacting with nature.
We moved out here to be closer to nature, and our homestead is embedded in a natural reserve zone with many rare plants and animals. The house is 150 years old and Leas family has lived there over multiple generations. Nowadays it's a privately used homestead, only for non commercial purposes.

These are things that Lea and Lafi like to do:
    - give all of our chickens names
-mostly vegan lifestyle (we only eat plant based products except for the eggs of our own chickens)
    -hiking/relaxing in beautiful nature
-being self sufficient with vegetables and fruits (at least in summer)
    -DIY everything
    -second hand shopping
    -gathering wild herbs and berries
-hanging out with friends and family
-Oh... and LGBTQ+ community and feminists
...this should paint a picture of the two of us.

We are very open-minded people and have a passion for organic gardening, chickens and sensitising other people for the beautiful nature surrounding us.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

In exchange for your helping hands, we can teach you about native plants, birds, amphibians and other wildlife as well as ecological chains in nature and organic grading. We have very intensive knowledge in these fields as Lea is a biology teacher and Lafi is a biologist. We can also teach you how to mow with a traditional scythe and how to sharpen it as well as other gardening technics that are specific for Germany.
We know the local area and it's attractions quite well and will mark for you any places of interest that you would like to see.
We speak German and English and are more than happy to practice German with you if you are interested in learning!
As has already been hinted at, we are interested in eco-projects, sustainable living, queer-friendly people, enjoying our family time and much more. To us, this is true value and real wealth!

  • Help

    Help

If you join us, we can do tasks together on several private projects.
We have plenty creative ideas, indoor, outdoor and gardening projects. This is were you come in. The primary skillset we are looking for is having hands, as everything that we do are things you don’t need to be professionally trained at, since we aren’t either.

    - Gardening and chicken projects
    - Some indoor projects and help around the house
    -There is the usual household business... dishes, cooking, cleaning;

This is only to get a little inside into what kind of projects we’re working on. The type of tasks and schedule is flexible and will be discussed on a weekly basis and your preferences. But hanging out together, for example at our small ponds and getting to know each other is also important to us.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

At present, we have a tiny house, which is exclusively used by you, with a sofa bed, a small kitchen space and a view at the garden pond. We can also accommodate two workawayers, if you are fine to share room and bed. There is a outdoor toilet near your tiny house to use at night and while in the garden. Due to the tiny house accommodation, Workawayers can currently only stay with us during warmer months as heating is limited to a small portable heater. But the tiny house is well-suited for nature lovers with a beautiful view into the garden and the ponds, which are perfect for a morning swim. There is no wifi in the tiny house but if you have a German mobile card in our phone you’ll have reception most of the time.

Since the main house is currently occupied by Lea and Lafi, as well as Lea's great-grandmother, who is over 90 years old (and has her own private areas), the main house can not be used by Workawayers while Lea and Lafi are not at home out of consideration for Lea's great-grandmother. When Lea and Lafi are home you are more than welcome to use the bathroom in the main house with a shower. Dinner will also take place in the main house. There is wifi in the main house and you will find that you can also access it in certain parts of the garden.

If you prefer to stay in a tent or mobile home, this is also possible. We have plenty of space on our property to find a nice spot for your tent. If you are living in a van we have a parking spot you can use. Only really large motorhomes will not work (if you’re interested just let us know your measurements and we’ll see if we can find a spot).

The usual system with food is that we have a proper dinner, since we aren’t home for lunch during the week. You’re more than welcome to eat breakfast together with us in the morning but can also decide to sleep a little longer and eat whenever you get up. The fridge will be kept well stocked and we usually plan our meals for the week, as we go grocery shopping once a week.
We cook mostly plant based as the only animal product we eat are the eggs of our own chickens. Please note, that we are not going to cook any meat or fish products in our household.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We are nestled in the environmentally protected Vogtland region, just a few hundred meters from the Czech border, surrounded by rolling hills, deep forests, and open meadows that define this unique corner of Saxony. In the spring time we have a veritable orchestra of birdsong! Countless hiking and cycling trails wind through the landscape, leading to scenic viewpoints, tranquil reservoirs, and historic paths.
In short, if nature is your thing, we got plenty to be explored around here! We'll provide you with map locations, details, tips and tricks.

We only have one car which is in use by us most of the time but we have a couple of bicycles you are free to use. Public transport is possible but very limited in our area. We are about 4 km outside town and there are some backroads and forest paths that are quite enjoyable to walk or bike, which will take you to town without having to walk alongside the main road.

In your time off, you can visit beautiful old cities in Czech Bohemian area. The old castles and spa cities are very delightful and the Eger Basin is a beautiful place to go for a bike ride. We are also happy to get you to the next train station from which you can reach the cities Leipzig and Dresden for a day trip.
