    Description

My name Is Daniel, I am in my mid-twenties and I live and work at my parents two Guesthouses situated at the heart of Penzance. I do most of my work at my parent’s farm cottage mainly doing labouring and construction. My family and I have been doing Workaway since 2015 and we really enjoy meeting all the travellers Workaway has to offer.
Please note we only accept Workaways who have the intention to stay for a minimum of 4 weeks. We also start with a trial period. We receive and respect persons of all different creeds and walks of life but we reserve the right to make an assessment after a few days of your stay, just as we ask our visitors to do. Experience has shown us that things don't always work out as expected and then it is a good thing to part gracefully, so to have a back up plan is always a good idea.
My mother and father live at their farm. We have many animals that are all part of our family, from dogs and cats to ducks and goats, we love them just as much as each other (maybe more). We have put a lot of love, time and effort into our farm and we ask our Workaways to put in just as much.
The guesthouses are my parents business which my sister and I co-manage, while my sister does most of the management of the Guesthouse. I have more hands on approach at the farm and our Workaways will spend most of the time with me doing work at the farm with my mother and father. My sister lives in one of the Guesthouses and I the other, she has a 5 year old son (as of 2019) who lives with her (so a liking of children is a must). We are situated only a stone’s throw away from the promenade and beach, and with a bus stop located at the end of the road, you can go anywhere very quickly. The town is a ten minute walk from the Guest house, our farmhouse cottage is slightly out of town and is more rural, surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are so many famous places to visit - Lands’ end, St Michele's mount and St Ives to name a few, as well as our many amazing beaches, cliffside’s and vast landscapes.

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We want our Workaways to feel at home with us and become part of our family. You will have the opportunity to learn English and about the English culture, also get a taste of the life in our small town - Penzance, as well as the gorgeous countryside. We help our Workaways improve English skills as much as possible, we are a very sociable family and we have a lot of patience to help you speak the language. Our main social time is during dinner and during the work between coffee breaks. We cook traditional English dinners but if you have a meal that is from your country we would love to try it. :)
We fully understand that some Workaways may not be as experienced in doing some of the physical tasks we commonly do around the farm, and that is fine but we do ask that you show enthusiasm and put in as much effort as we do, and you happily accept any task, but we never ask a Workaway to do a job that we are not comfortable doing ourselves and that we have done many times over. When doing complex tasks/jobs we will happily show you what to do, also we try our best that you won’t have to do a job alone, sometimes you will be with other Workaways, sometimes with me or another family member, but of course there will be the occasional job that is a one person job. However we do not want to babysit you, if you are applying to us than you need to have a level of competence; if you see tools lying around the work place, don’t walk past it, put it away in the tool shed. If you’re stuck between jobs and can’t find someone, look around and try to improvise.

These are just examples, but hopefully gives you some insight of our life here. We accept Workaways from everywhere, being the city, village or countryside, but we ask that you bear in mind that this is the rural countryside you are visiting. It can be cold and windy and wet and we ask that you are able to handle physically demanding work. In order to encourage a full cultural exchange with us and our other helpers we do not allow the use of mobile phones while working. To be sure that you have read our profile could you please write to me personally by including my name, Daniel at the beginning of your message. When you write to us please do tell us plenty about yourself, your likes, interests, reason for travelling, why you think you would enjoy staying with us and what skills and experience you can offer. We prefer our Workaways to stay 4 weeks or longer so you get a full experience of our culture. Being organised, independent and with lots of enthusiasm is a must :). We prefer to do a video call before you would arrive, to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you would like, also for us to explain everything about us in further detail.
We can also help you to plan your journey, and give you information to find the best way to arrive here. Some of what is mentioned may seem a little strict but on the flip side of the coin (English expression) we work hard, we play hard…
As a guy being the same age as most of my Workaways I have built up many friendships over the years. I enjoy socialising with our visitors, whether it's going to the local pub, playing cards together or going bowling. As I love cooking we all share meals together where my parents and sister will join us, and we encourage Workaways to cook recipes from their home country as well.

A love for the outdoors is another must. The work ranges from building projects, brushing the dogs, picking vegetables, general labouring, gardening, cooking and cleaning. This is a brief list of some of the tasks available. During the video call we would make, I will explain the tasks that we would be doing in more detail, but expect the possibility to be doing a little of everything.

In return we offer one of or lovely rooms at our Guesthouse, that you would share with another Workaway, you will also have the use of a shared bathroom. All towels and linen will be provided, and a washing machine will be available for you to use. You will be provided with food for breakfast and lunch and then we will provide you with a cooked evening meal. We also have Wi-Fi throughout the house. As I live next door to the building you will be spending most of you time with me, as I’ve said above, I enjoy socialising with our Workaways, so time can be spent in my apartment playing pool, darts or cards with me and the other Workaways ☺.
