Description
We run a private Residential School in Morshing village (Arunachal Pradesh) for students up to 14 years old. There are classes upto 8th standard, currently. The main objective of the school is to provide modern education along with cultural and Buddhist studies to children coming from challenged backgrounds. We are presently having 8 teaching and 2 non teaching staff. There is weak network connectivity in the village, working on only 1 network provider, i.e, BSNL.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Morshing is a beautiful quiet remote village where you can slow down and enjoy nature and village life. The people in Morshing are most friendly and welcoming. The village retains its traditional color and it is delightful to explore. Volunteers will have the chance to be part of our community and enjoy their stay with us. From trying our local dishes and organic products to meeting people and learning about local folk stories and the Monpa lifestyle, to taking volunteers to places near and far Morshing during our days off, not one day will be the same for the volunteers. The children, on their part, would love to hear the stories volunteers would like to share from their countries or their travels. Also, their feedback about how to improve our school is most welcome. The hosts are happy to taste your cuisine so if you are any good at cooking, please feel free to share with us.
Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Indian citizens and Prohibited Area Permit (PAP) for foreign nationals is a must to enter Arunachal Pradesh. You can plan to apply for the permits online prior to your visit. Please note, there are erratic power and water cuts during the week but we have learnt to cope, it is beyond our control.

****TEACHING VOLUNTEERS****
We are looking for volunteers who would like to spend time with the students and share their expertise. The school already has a drumset, tabla, flute, guitars and we would appreciate if you are well equipped with playing any of the above mentioned musical instruments and would impart your knowledge to the kids. Vocalist training is also welcomed.
Class schedule:
Classes run from Monday to Friday (9.00am to 3.20pm) and half day on Saturdays (9.00am to 1:10 pm). The class period is of 40 minutes with breaks in between so volunteers can spend time with students in class from 9:00am until lunch time (1:10 pm). There is a short tea break as well at 11:00 am . After 3:20 pm, it is play time for kids until 5:00 pm. Then from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm students join their tution classes.
Volunteers are welcome to help with English classes from 9.00am until lunchtime at 03:20 pm, Monday to Saturday.
****ECO-FRIENDLY ARCHITECTURE VOLUNTEERS****
We are also looking for volunteers who know about eco-friendly architecture. At the moment we have two projects in progress. The first one consists of a Campsite next to a small river for the kid's Summer Adventure Camp. Bamboo and local woods are available. We are open to ideas from our volunteers about the Design.
Would be really inspiring for our children to learn from you about alternative and eco-friendly constructions.

Accommodation
A basic 2-space private room with shared kitchen and shared bathroom is available for the volunteers on the grounds of the school where we all stay. The host have their private space, the students stay at the hostel next door, and teachers stay in adjacent rooms or separate houses in the school yard. We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner, free of charge. We all eat together (students at the dining hall and teachers at home next door). Volunteers can also purchase their necessities and snacks from the local shops in Morshing or nearby towns - nothing fancy though. You may need to carry with you several things you cannot find here (e.g. ground coffee, oats, etc), please speak with us first.

What else ...
There are plenty to see in and around the village. There are Buddhist monasteries and trekking trails on the green mountains. Public transportation is limited but we make sure to pick up the volunteers and bring them to Morshing and show them around.
Regarding phone network only BSNL sim card works here.
