    Description

Our Foundation works in Uganda, East Africa empowering women and girls through the promotion of their rights, education, and economic empowerment. We aim to break the cycle of inequality by providing access to maternal and child health services, and reproductive education, and addressing the issues of early pregnancy and marriage. Additionally, we will work towards ensuring that girls have the resources they need to stay in school, through programs such as the distribution of reusable sanitary pads.

Our work is done at several fishing villages and on 7 islands on Lake Victoria. Come volunteer with us and discovery the beauty of Africa. We can even help you arrange a safari or white water rafting on the Nile while you are with us!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Volunteers participating in a cultural exchange program with us will benefit from an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of health and reproductive education, maternal and child health, women's rights and empowerment, and community development.

Through working on programs such as the Health & Reproductive Education Program, Awareness Campaigns & Education Programs, and Maternal & Child Health Services, volunteers will gain hands-on experience in delivering health education and services to communities in need.

They will have the opportunity to participate in programs such as Reusable Sanitary Pad Distribution, Vocational Training & Economic Empowerment, and Mamma Kit Distribution, they will learn about the challenges faced by women and girls in the communities and ways to support them. They will also have the opportunity to see the impact of their work and the positive change that can be made in the lives of those they serve.

Taking part in our advocacy for change programs will offer them a greater understanding on the role of advocacy and policy in promoting the rights of women and girls in third world countries.

Overall, our programs provides volunteers with a chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of communities in need, while also learning about important global health and social issues, and developing new skills and perspectives.

    Help

We are looking for volunteers to assist us in teaching village women about safe motherhood, teens about hygiene and menstruation, business skills, and more. We have a goat project and a small farm where there is always work to be done. We have also started a fish farm as an income generation project to help the organization become sustainable. We are open to ideas any volunteer may have for a new project to help us expand and provide greater service to the people we support.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have volunteer accommodations that consist of a shared space with single beds, mosquito nets, and small lockers for personal belongings. The rooms have windows with screens. They are typical African village rooms so nothing super fancy. Toilet/shower facilities are outside at the back of our compound. We have solar power for lighting and charging phones/laptops etc.

If you do not want to "rough it" at our facilities then alternative arrangements can be made at a local hotel (B&B) for additional fees. Our accommodation is basic but comfortable and will give you a great local experience.

Food: we have a staff cook who prepares traditional African meals that vary with staples of rice/posho (maize)/matoke/atapa(cassava) served with either beans/greens/fish/chicken. We do not serve any pork and do not permit it at our compounds. If you wish to cook for yourself that can also be arranged.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

There are several things for volunteers to do in their spare time and we can assist you in planning for a number of different excursions such as white water rafting on the Nile, Nile River boat trip, Safari, Mountain Gorilla Trek, Rhino Sanctuary, Murchison Falls and so much more. Just ask us we can help you plan a great experience.

We have a router for online work but in the village, it is not secure due to power outages. We have solar but even with this, it can be spotty at times. If you needed to work on deadlines, I am not sure it would be very good. You could purchase your own wifi flash which might be better, or if staying in the town at a hotel instead of our facility the internet would be better.
