Description
Hello! We’re a family of four who love to meet people from around the world and share our little slice of life. In 2020, we moved from the U.S. to Taranaki sight unseen and loved it so much we decided to stay. Tyson is a doctor at the local hospital, and Lis just returned to her career after taking time off to care for our two young daughters, ages 5.5 and 2.5. We love hiking, traveling, reading, good food, game nights, and spending time with family and friends. We prefer to host helpers with au pair or childcare experience who can stay for at least two weeks (or longer - we have availability until the end of September).

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
With the mountain and the ocean close by, there are so many ways to enjoy the outdoors in Taranaki. We have a list of recommendations for activities and food experiences, and are happy to bring you along when we venture out and socialize as well. Lis studied Anthropology in college and has always loved learning about other cultures, and we hope to pass that interest along to our children by traveling with them and having them meet people from around the world from a young age.

Help
We’d like help with daily household tasks such as tidying, dishes, laundry, cooking dinner, and cleaning up after meals. We’d also love some help with the kids - especially in the mornings / evening before and after kindy and with our five-year-old during the upcoming school holidays. Finally, our outdoor space includes a lawn, veggie garden, and a somewhat overgrown fruit orchard, so there is no shortage of gardening tasks if you enjoy being outside.

We're happy to help you learn and improve your English. We both speak some Spanish, Tyson began to learn French this year and our older daughter takes weekly Spanish classes. -
Accommodation
Our home is located in a quiet neighborhood that borders a nature reserve with several nice walking paths. We're a 5-minute drive to New Plymouth’s CBD, or a 20-minute bus ride. We’re happy to take you along when we drive into town if it suits. We also have extra parking spaces and room for a camper van or RV in our driveway if you have your own transportation.
You’ll be sleeping in our 50sqm fully finished studio located next to the house with a very comfortable queen-size bed and your own half-bathroom. Showers and meals are in the main house. -
What else ...
We’d like to host people who are kind, comfortable and experienced with little kids, and thorough in their work. Being comfortable with the basics of conversational English is preferable for ease of communication.
We’re signed up with Hello Fresh and My Food Bag, so being able to follow recipes in English would be helpful for cooking dinners - although we’re happy to pause the subscriptions if you love to cook and want to make your own recipes for the family.
We can be flexible with many things, so if you’re interested, let’s hop on a call to see if we’re a good fit. We look forward to meeting you! -

This was my first experience as a workawayer and I was received in a peaceful and helpful environment. Lis did everything she could to make me feel home and to be sure I had everything I needed.
