Description
I’m Marta, and together with Cristian (he’s a family doctor), we live in beautiful Sicily, right next to the sea — just a 5-minute walk away — in a town called Rometta Marea.
We have cafés and supermarkets nearby, a train and bus station about 10 minutes away, and the area is peaceful and relaxing.
Our house is quite big, with a small garden, a hammock under a red-orange tree, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living room with a fireplace.
We share our home with two highly trained Belgian Shepherd Malinois — a mother and her son.
They are playful, love cuddles, and are incredibly intelligent. However, please keep in mind that they are also very energetic — not the type of dogs that enjoy lounging on the couch all day. They are active, smart, and a bit sassy by nature!
The 5-year-old female, Passion, is well trained and loves to play, go for walks, swim, and play frisbee at the nearby park. Her son, her firstborn, stole my heart at first sight. He’s now one year old and currently in training for dog sport competitions.
We decided to share our beautiful rustic home and natural surroundings with volunteers, as having someone at home is very helpful — especially when our work shifts overlap. It’s great to have someone here to keep an eye on and give company to our amazing four-legged friends: taking them for walks on the beach, feeding them, or simply playing with them.
Sometimes we also appreciate help with simple household chores that we don’t always manage to do daily, such as taking out the trash, watering the dogs and plants, garden maintenance, or loading/unloading the dishwasher and washing machine.
We also have some DIY projects coming up — including creating an outdoor cinema with a projector in the garden!
We are a friendly young couple and have already hosted volunteers at home last summer to help with the puppies. We also used to be very active on Couchsurfing (I can share my profile with references).
We’ve had great experiences with volunteers from Facebook groups and hope to meet more amazing people here. Some of them have even become close friends and have come back to visit us several times.
In return, we offer the opportunity to improve your language skills (we speak Italian, Polish, and English), delicious food, and a private room.
I can also give lessons on dog training — how to teach tricks, object and scent searches — and share some simple and tasty Polish and Italian recipes.
The help we ask for is around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, leaving you two days off to explore nearby towns or enjoy excursions together or on your own :)
