    Description

    Welcome to Graceland.

Graceland is a long term, casual, homesteading inspired project on a large family property. It is run by me, Evan, along with a rotating cast of friends, mostly city escapees who come out as time allows to help with projects. Over the past eight years, Graceland has been home to many people including carpentry students, musicians, gardeners, and creatives.

The property includes a small hobby farm with chickens and pigs, a garden plot, forest trails, a sauna and cold plunge, and what might be the best backyard bar around. We also have a stage where we host concerts and record live music sessions, a project we started last fall and are excited to continue.

Outside of work, we enjoy sauna sessions, movie nights, games, and spending time together. We value good habits and healthy living, but we also enjoy our backyard bar and occasionally host well loved parties that have earned a bit of a reputation. Community, creativity, and shared effort are a big part of life here.

We have endless tasks and never quite enough time. If being part of this kind of place sounds like your cup of tea, we would love to hear from you.

Staying with us gives you access to a strong local community of carpenters, artists, musicians, makers, farmers, paddlers, and other creative people in Perth and Lanark County. We are happy to point you toward good swimming spots, saunas, restaurants, and local music festivals, and help you get oriented in the area.

We enjoy cooking meals together, listening to and playing music, having bonfires, and spending time paddling. We offer a laid back, welcoming environment.

There is currently one other full time roommate, and we both work full time as carpenters. I am usually on job sites during the day but occasionally work from home. We are looking for trustworthy, hardworking people who are comfortable working independently and taking initiative. Tasks vary and include caring for animals, cutting and stacking firewood, tending gardens, general property maintenance, and bringing fresh energy into the place.

We also have several projects in various stages of planning. These may include making an outdoor kitchen space and wood fired pizza oven. We are also hoping to expand into raising meat chickens.

    Accommodation

We have lots of beautiful camping space, including raised platforms with cozy glamping-style tents set up for workers. A comfortable camper trailer is also in the works to provide additional accommodation.

There is a shared kitchen and bathroom inside the house, and we also have a comfortable outhouse with running water available for your use. One of our first projects this spring will be building an outdoor shower, which you’ll be able to enjoy as well.

Workers will have full access to the covered outdoor kitchen, which will be equipped with all necessary dishes and cutlery, as well as a BBQ, stovetop, oven, and sinks. There will also be a designated fridge and pantry that we will keep stocked with good staple foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with coffee and tea.

We will aim to share dinners together as often as possible — we genuinely enjoy cooking and eating as a group.
