    Description

Our farm is a passion project of Andy and Tulsi. Andy bought the property in 2006 and they have been working to together on the project together since 2013. Both artists themselves, you will find them working on multiple projects at once. Tulsi is also working on her Masters of Divinity at a Buddhist College in Portland with the eventual goal of chaplaincy. She is the lead chef and business planner, working diligently to create sustainable models at the farm for people and revenue. Andy is passionately working on painting, metal, installation pieces and building & landscape projects thought out the week often with friends and volunteers by his side.

Offering opportunities for art, agriculture, ritual and community celebrations are some of the hallmarks of the art farm. Several of the large installation art pieces from the farm travel to festivals and art installation projects have gone out into the community (we recently completely benches for the local Veneta library). We have been hosting artists and volunteers both as day users and over night guests from the beginning. There are artists and volunteers that are so consistently involved the farm offerings and sharing their expertise! Our 501c3 is privately funded through revenue that comes from renting space to artists in our old chicken barns at a very affordable rate and helps to subsidize our projects and programming.

Metal, wood, glass, tile, and soon to be silkscreening shop are some of the play spaces we have to create in.

Developing our agricultural model in the last few years with a 1/2 acre community garden, 27 newly planted (last year) orchard trees from the local scion society (and more going in this year) to create a fruit tree library as well as a future crop to be developed into products.

Perhaps you will come and decide you want to join us too!

We are a vegetarian and drug and alcohol free inner faith sanctuary model (no faith required though, Andy - the co-owner is basically atheist). We have been producing installation art, supporting artists, and growing community for over a decade. We have two art nights a week (Wednesday and Sunday) where the metal and wood shop are up and running as well as a cozy soft arts room. Saturdays and Sundays are when we have our day volunteers, and sometimes through the week, with big vegetarian lunches enjoyed by all. Song circle happens first Saturday evenings of the month.

Situated in the southern Willamette Valley in Oregon we are one hour to the coast and a couple hours to the mountain (and Portland) with lots of beautiful hiking (we have books here to help folks figure out adventure). Eugene, our neighboring town 25 minutes away has a beautiful river running thought it with bike trails and many hiking trails throughout. Art Farm is also right next door to the historic Oregon Country Fair grounds, with over 600 accessible acres and lots of nice walking trails giving our humble little 7 acres a much bigger experience.

We have a lighter workweek, offering more autonomy to explore or be in contemplation or work on a passion project. We ask for 24 hours of work for the week (including common chores for shared spaces) that can be divided up in a variety of ways to leave room for plenty of time to have some fun.

At the farm we are in full project mode: Garden preparation and planting, new orchard planting, fencing, willow planting along waterways and blackberry removal. We have farm pets (three cats, two pigs, ducks and chickens) are well taken care of but can alway use some more snuggles and treats. There are art projects always ongoing (installation art/restoring existing art/and art studios being built). If helping in the farm house kitchen calls you - this can be a place to plug in a little bit for shared meals. We are looking for some strong hardy workers that understand how to dress for and work outside in various weather with us, but we also always try to match the project with the interest of the volunteers. Sometime we have things going on that are all hands on deck. Some days there are several projects going at once so many things to choose from!

In addition to flexibility on choices in projects - the projects we ask out work-away folks to work on are always related to the non-profit offering and programming at the farm (which is the vast majority of the of what we do here!). Workawayers will never be asked to help with cleaning of cabins or other related tasks that have to do with our paying guests that occasionally rent some of the other cabins.

We have references from others that have stayed and worked with us, please do not hesitate to ask for those names and contact information. Some of our favorite people have developed lasting relationships with the farm and return here throughout their travels. We have been informally running this program for years through word of month and are now ready to take it live to share with a larger, global community. We are excited to invite you here to be a part of this and have a new experience.

Beautiful cabins well appointed with comfy beds, each has a writing table and good lighting for reading at night. The shower and composting toilet is a walk away. The main farm house and residence is open from at least 10-6pm with laundry and additional toilets on the main level to make sure there are plenty of facility as we get busier with people in during the high season of summer. The guests often prepare breakfast and snacks and dinner in the well stocked auxiliary kitchen and lunch is served and eaten in at the farm house on the days volunteers are working on projects. Many additional meals and especially gluten free and dairy free baked goods are created and shared from the main kitchen throughout any given week depending on schedules.

Both kitchens are vegetarian and the main farm house kitchen is also gluten free. We often cook dairy free with some dairy treat on the side. Farm fresh eggs and greens are coming out of the garden and we have well stocked pantries with organic grains and rices, spices and cooling oils and coffee and tea.

Our other auxiliary spaces include a beautifully tiles shower/sauna house, separate tiles composing toilet house, an sweet little auxiliary kitchen we fondly call the “Chickitchen”, beautiful meditation/healing arts studio, a solarium and a common living room that also doubles as a the soft arts craft space for our art night. All spacing are maintained at a high level of cleanliness.

Be aware we are a drug (this includes pot) and alcohol free sanctuary model. No consumption of intoxicants (besides coffee and tea!) on site. If you want to go enjoy a cider or other brew house or check out one of the local wineries - please just don’t bring it home with you.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Exploring the 600 acres next door, exploring Eugene, and day trips to the coast! At least two trips to town by the hosts as well as a bus that goes twice a day makes day excursion to the bigger town easy to find transportation (during the dryer season we even bike to town sometimes - although it is 23 miles so that can be a bit much for some folks).

    Lady Cricket (8 years)

Second more feral kittty. She was found living under a cargo container in Eugene. She is deaf and a little cray-cray. Adorable and because of her uniques and unruly attitude towards the other cats has seperate sleeping arrangements (although Fabio seems to be bringing her around when he can tolerate her hissing and growling).

    Felix the elusive (4 years)

This is Fabio’s brother and also a love, but he is his own boss and lives more than part time next door. He comes around for snuggles and to let us know he is still a lovinator.

    Rosabel (3 years)

This is one our most feral (they were all originally feral) cats and she is learning to ask for snuggles but still a big skiddish.

    Fabio the fabulous (4 years)

Fabio is our number one lovinator.

    Otter the elder (12 years)

Our sweet boy is one big snuggler.

Two elderly pet pigs - Pickle and Pepper (10 years)

    Grumpy but very cute.

22 hens, two rooster and 8 Guinea hens (3 years)

Our hens are happy and give us eggs. The roosters snuck in on the last batch but seem to be behaving! The guineas has a successful brood last year and have 6 children that are now as big as the parents - they all stick together.
