    Description

I’m Alexandra. I live with my husband and my cat, Mia on the hills of Grecia, Alajuela. Costa Rica. We have a daugther, Melissa who is 21 years old. She attends college in a different city but comes to stay with us every so often.

I love traveling so when I am not going places, I enjoy the company of someone from a different culture and language as a way to share and learn from different perspectives, cuisine, culture, language, etc. We have hosted in the past an italian teenager in a student exchange program and it was a lovely experience.

We have a big house and it requieres constant TLC (tender loving care) with basic cleaning, dusting, and clean up after meals. As a workawayer, you will be in charge of house chores in the morning preferably. Chores consist of sweeping, dusting, mopping, cleaning bathrooms and showers, putting dishes in the dishwasher and put them away once they dry, cleaning the kitchen after breakfast and lunch. I am asking only days from monday to thursday, 5 hours each day so you can have fridays, saturdays and sundays off. That is so you can enjoy your free time traveling around Costa Rica and enjoying everything there is to do in this tropical country. Chores will take 3 hours per day, the rest of the time is for language practice. I am learning French so for two hours a day you will teach me French. The rest of the time I will teach you spanish and or english. However, it is important for you to know that learning French for me is very important and we will practice that a lot.

Very close to our house you can enjoy activities such as hiking, swimming (we live in a condominium with a community swiming pool), The city of Grecia is 20 minutes by bus from our house. The bus stop is 5 minutes from the house. Buses are reliable, there is a good schedule from and to our house every day.

I drive to Grecia often, therefore you will be able to get a ride from me ocassionally. I will make sure you enjoy your stay and feel welcome at all times.

We live on the hills, about 1200 meters above the sea level. Our gated community is guarded in the entrance, very safe and tranquil. The only noise you will hear will be birds chriping. The wheather is always nice, no need for AC or heat. We do not use our clothes dryer very often unless it rains too much and clothes do not dry easily. You will be in charge of your own laundry. We have clothes line in the open air.

Having been a Workawayer myself in France and Italy, I truly understand how important it is to feel at home. I ensure you have a comfortable and safe environment.

We have spring water straight from the mountains so no need for bottled water.

We respect quiet hours starting at 9 p.m., and I expect non-smokers with no parties or guests. You’ll have access to our community’s pool and parks. I can’t wait to learn from you, share meaningful experiences, and ensure you have a memorable stay.

I ask for 20 hours per week Monday to Thursday, about 5 hours daily flexible but ideally mornings. Three hours are general house cleaning and two hours are language practice. I prefer French speakers, ideally from France, as I’m learning this language. In exchange, I can help with Spanish or English.

    Accommodation

You’ll have a spacious room upstairs, about 80 square meters, with lots of natural light and fresh air. You’ll have your own single bed, two balconies with beautiful views, and a full private bathroom. I’ll provide clean sheets, towels, and shower gel, while you bring your own personal toiletries.

We will provide three meals a day and there will always be fresh fruit, tea, and coffee available in the house. We buy our vegetables at the fresh market, mainly organic. We do eat every animal protein except pork. Breakfast consists of toast and jelly and or cheese. Dinner is served early, 7 pm the latest. I will prepare all the meals but I would also like to have a taste of your cuisine once a week for lunch or dinner so I can learn from your gastronomy. Sometimes I may not be in the house but there will always be ingredients for you to prepare a meal in my absence.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

On Fridays and Saturdays, we have a vibrant fresh market full of exotic fruits, vegetables, and small eateries where you can meet locals. Grecia is known as one of the cleanest cities in Latin America. It has all the services you may need and a beautiful park in front of our iconic metal church that gathers families and people of all ages.

Nearby, San Ramón also offers great hiking and waterfalls. Plus, the Poás Volcano one of Costa Rica’s iconic national parks is just an hour away. You can hike up and see its stunning crater.
