Join Our Family Project in the Heart of Rural Portugal

    Hello!
We are a family of four, living in the beautiful village of Louriçal do Campo, in the Castelo Branco region of central Portugal .

Our home sits at the edge of the village on approximately half a hectare of land, surrounded by nature, open views, and plenty of opportunities to create, grow, and learn. We live here with our two children: a curious 6 year old boy and a cheerful 2 year old girl .

We love welcoming people from different backgrounds and enjoy sharing experiences, skills, meals, and everyday life. We see volunteers as part of the family during their stay and value mutual learning, shared experiences, and meaningful human connections.

    What we are working on

Our land is an evolving project with many exciting ideas and ongoing developments, including:

Growing and expanding our vegetable garden
Planting and caring for fruit trees and other trees
Maintaining and learning from our beehives
Improving and developing our chicken area to create a healthier and more functional space for the flock
    Building an ecological swimming pond
Creating beautiful outdoor spaces for relaxation and gathering
Developing areas that can host community activities, workshops, and shared projects
    General land regeneration and improvement
There is always a variety of tasks available, from practical outdoor work to creative projects, and we try to match activities to each volunteer's interests and abilities.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We offer volunteers a spacious private floor located on the ground level of our home, just below our family's living area. The space is comfortable, bright, and designed to provide both independence and a sense of connection to family life.
    The accommodation includes:
A large open living area with two sofa beds
A private kitchenette with a refrigerator, freezer, sink, and basic cooking facilities
Space to prepare your own meals if you wish
Direct access to the terrace and garden
Plenty of room to relax, read, work, or enjoy some quiet time
One of the things we love about this arrangement is that it offers the best of both worlds. You'll have your own private space and freedom, while still being close enough to share meals, conversations, and everyday life with our family if you'd like.
Bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities are easily accessible and shared within the main house. Volunteers are welcome to use the washing machine and other household facilities as needed.
We want our guests to feel comfortable here—not just as visitors, but as part of the home. Whether you enjoy joining family activities or prefer a little more independence, we try to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, respected, and at ease.

Food is an important part of daily life in our home, and we try to keep things flexible, comfortable, and enjoyable for everyone.
The volunteer accommodation includes a separate kitchenette with a refrigerator, freezer, sink, cooking facilities, and everything needed for preparing simple meals. We will provide groceries and basic ingredients during your stay, so you will always have access to food and the possibility to prepare meals independently if you prefer.
Our approach is usually a combination of shared meals and self-catering.
Because mornings tend to be busy with work, family life, and getting the children ready for their day, breakfast is usually self-served. Volunteers are welcome to prepare breakfast in their own space at whatever time suits them.
We generally share at least one meal together each day, usually lunch or dinner, and often both. We enjoy gathering around the table, sharing food, stories, and conversations, and we see meals as an important part of the cultural exchange experience.
We are not a vegetarian or vegan household and do eat meat. However, we are happy to accommodate different dietary preferences and needs whenever possible. The separate kitchen also allows volunteers with specific dietary requirements to prepare food in a way that feels comfortable for them.
We believe good communication is the key. Every person is different, and we are happy to discuss food preferences, dietary restrictions, cooking habits, and practical arrangements before and during your stay.
We also genuinely enjoy cooking and sharing meals with others. If you prefer not to cook much, that's absolutely fine. And if you love cooking, we'd be delighted to exchange recipes, cook together, or even enjoy dishes from your culture!
Our goal is for everyone to feel comfortable, well-fed, and at home.

    Can possibly accept pets

We can accept dogs that are chill and calm, that they are good with children, will not try to attack our chickens. Also we have a neighbor with sheep so if a dog is very motivated to run across the fence it could be problematic. the pet can also stay inside the volunteer accommodation as long as it will not destroy the room belongings.
