Description
We are an English family who made the move to rural France 21 years ago and now live in the beautiful Pyrenees countryside. Our home is shared by three generations – us as a couple, our two children (19 and 16), and Grandma, who adds plenty of warmth to daily life!
We also have animals, so there’s always something happening outdoors. Life here is peaceful, surrounded by nature and mountains, but never boring, it’s a busy, friendly household where everyone mucks in and enjoys the simple pleasures of countryside living.

Life Here & Cultural Exchange
For us, Workaway is about more than just exchanging help for accommodation it’s about sharing skills, experiences and family life.
We’re a relaxed but active household and enjoy including helpers in everyday life, whether that’s shared meals, BBQs in the garden, trips to local markets or exploring the Pyrenees. Rural life here is peaceful, surrounded by nature, but there’s always something going on.
My husband is a carpenter and builder, so there are often practical projects happening around the property, and there’s plenty of opportunity to learn hands-on skills. I previously ran a soap business and now manage projects, so we’re happy to share experience in small business, organisation and planning too.
We love meeting people from different cultures and learning about your country, traditions and food. For us, the best Workaway experiences feel like a genuine exchange where everyone learns something and leaves with great memories.
Help
Help Around the Property
As spring approaches, most of the help will be outdoors. This is one of our busiest and most productive seasons.
We have a large vegetable patch that needs preparing, planting and maintaining, as well as a large garden with many plants and ongoing projects planned for the year ahead.
Projects this season include:
Creating a pond area
Fencing work
Cutting hedges
General garden upkeep
Painting entrance gates
We also have some small handy projects around the property, so practical skills and previous hands-on experience would be very beneficial. Confidence using basic tools and being happy with physical outdoor work is important.
We have horses, chickens, dogs and cats, so being comfortable around animals is essential. Our dog enjoys daily walks, so it would be lovely if you’re happy to help with that too. Some light animal care may also be included depending on your experience.
🌿 Who Would Suit This Role?
This opportunity would suit someone practical, physically fit and happy working outdoors in all types of spring weather. Experience in gardening, DIY, fencing, maintenance or small handy projects would be a big advantage.
You should be:
Self-motivated
Reliable and positive
Comfortable living in a family environment
Happy around animals
Able to work independently as well as alongside us
Rural life here is peaceful and beautiful, but it’s important to understand this is countryside living rather than town life.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone friendly and respectful who would enjoy becoming part of our family home for a while.

Accommodation
Workawayers stay in our cosy Roulotte (shepherds hut) set slightly apart from the main family house so you have your own private space.
It has a small kitchen area and a private bathroom with shower, sink and hot water. The toilet is a compost toilet, in keeping with our rural setting and eco approach. It’s simple and easy to use.
The roulotte is comfortable and peaceful, a lovely little retreat after a day working outdoors , offering both independence and the opportunity to join family life as much as you’d like.
Food will be provided during your stay. We usually share meals together when possible, but there is also space for independence if you prefer to cook for yourself.
Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements, allergies or preferences, we are flexible and will always do our best to accommodate you.
What else ...
We live in a rural area, so having your own transport can be helpful, though not essential. The nearest train station is approximately 30 minutes away. There are very limited bus services, so public transport is not frequent.
We are happy to help with lifts to the station when possible and can also take you to local shops if needed.
Please note that ours is a strictly non-smoking household and property.
