Description
We are a young family creating our permaculture homestead and ecovillage in the same time.
We are located in the picturesque Gauja National Park with beautiful nature trails nearby. Therefore our homestead is surrounded by nature and peacefulness. However, two vibrant and cozy cities (valmiera and Cesis) are just 15 kilometers away, giving us the perfect balance of city-country life.
We are offering a one or two-week stay in June for those interested in witnessing the creation of a family homestead (kin's domain) in a settlement of similar homesteads. The weeks in June will finish with the Midsummers celebration on 22nd June. It is optional to take part in these events, but might be interesting for Workawayers with special interest in culture exchange.
We stand for family values, permaculture and homesteading.
We also try to tell about our experience through social media, so be open to having occasional camera and selfies around.

UN sustainability goals this host is trying to achieve
Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We will be happy to show and explain the permaculture methods used at our place (sun trap garden, crater garden, storing of hay, scything, composting, raised plant-beds, greenhouse, branch fence, wood post carousel etc.).
We can teach the principles of how to design and plan your own homestead. As well as help with first sketches.
We will be happy to discuss the importance of concepts that we are materializing: kin's domains, family values, homestead settlement, fitness, true sustainability etc.
Workawayer will be integrated in our daily life with all the benefits according to weather (visiting of lake, trips to city), therefore good fit with children is necessary.
Help
The stay will include such activities:
- gardening, weeding, grass cutting and mulching
- work with tree branches, creation of fencing
- hay collection and stacking (big part)
- optional involvement in construction works
- lunch preparation
The activities might change. The daily work schedule will be structured.

Accommodation
Accommodation is located at neighbor's house nearby (walkable distance) in a beautiful place.
Old house with modest conditions, clean and safe. A separate room will be available. Inside shower, washing machine. There is a good internet access at the site of accommodation.
The guest will eat breakfast at the site of accommodation; will help with lunch preparation and will have dinner with us.
What else ...
The time off offers plenty of opportunities:
- visiting of Valmiera city (15 km)
- visiting of Cesis and its medieval castle (15 km)
- enjoying the beaches of the nearby river and lake (3 and 7 km)
- hiking in the Gauja National Park forest trails (2 km)
- visiting picturesque sandstone cliffs (2 km)
- doing outdoor fitness and weightlifting with our equipment (dumbbells, kettlebells, pull-up bar)
Public transport is in a walkable distance (2 km).
Due to safety reasons and our values - smoking and use of alcohol or any addictive substances is strictly prohibited at all times during the stay. Zero tolerance policy.
Upon arrival we will talk about the house rules and you will need to sign them.
