  • Description

    Description

This is a project to promote low impact living that has been taking volunteers for 25 years but is currently in the process of changing hands and we are therefore currently only accepting return and long term volunteers who are able to have a degree of independence while working and socializing .
If you are looking to collaborate with a large community this is not the place for you as we now have a reduced team of volunteers who are quite autonomous, but there is a wider community of people in the local.village (Bayacas).and town ( Orgiva ) and lots of opportunities to get involved in workshops, volunteer days, community events and fiestas outside of the farm.
The place is based on a large organic farm, mainly olive groves, some almond and fruit trees, vegetable plots, and several self built houses ,situated in a valley with limited road access but only 5 mins walk from the nearest village and 30 mins from a lively alternative town.(Orgiva)
We are completely off grid- solar power, compost toilets etc.
We currently have up to 3 or 4 volunteers at any one time helping with the running of the farm,.

Kate is also a member of a small organic olive oil co-op where we take the olives to be milled..

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We give priority to volunteers arriving by the most sustainable means of transport (bike, bus, train....)
There are bus connections to Granada and Motril via Orgiva.
The Alpujarras is a beautiful area below Sierra Nevada national park.
We ask people not to smoke in the houses or while working.
We cannot accept volunteers with pets or drug or alcohol habits.
If you have any mental or physical health issues please let us know so we can assess if this is the right place for you.
(including allergies, special dietary requirements etc.)

We give priority to long-stay volunteers and the minimum stay is 4 weeks,

There are lots of other organic farms in the area which take volunteers and the area is perfect for hiking in Sierra Nevada
We are also 45 mins from the beach although public transport is limited
Orgiva has a lively international community and there are mainly workshops, classes and courses on offer.
Bayacas also has an active neighbourhood association and regularly organise fiestas and volunteer work days to tidy up the village which are good opportunities to meet the locals
In the summer the outdoor swimming pool is open and the local council organizes cultural events like flamenco concerts and outdoor cinema screenings.
