    Description

In 2015, we moved from CA, to the bluegrass region of Kentucky, to pursue the dream of living a more wholesome, healthy, self- sustaining existence closer to nature. Our 61acre small farm is located in the hills, just South of Lexington. The dogs, kitties, horses, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, etc are a constant joy and labor of love. You may see deer, wild turkeys and even the occasional red fox wandering through. The scenic countryside of rolling hills and green pastures is great for horseback riding, hiking, camping, photography, and other fun outdoor activities! We are a trilingual family speaking English, Japanese, and some Spanish too! Our 3 young sons (5,8,10) are friendly, smart, and lots of fun—I’m sure they’ll love to engage you in a game of Chess or Monopoly!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You will have an opportunity to integrate into our routine. You can learn and practice quality conversational English, perhaps learn some Appalachian English, and enjoy the beautiful Kentucky countryside! You can spend free time for example, horseback riding, hiking, swimming, bicycling, running, reading playing sports with the boys, etc. Depending on the time of year, there are always projects going on and things to do and learn! Whether it's shearing time, grooming horses, lambing, milking, cheese/butter/yoghurt -making, or rounding up the naughty cows and pigs, there's plenty going on at the farm and home! As far as mealtimes, we cherish the quality time, preparing and eating meals, and generally try to include something we have grown or produced by the farm. If you don't already know how, our little boys can teach you how to play chess!

You can walkabout to the springs, creeks and lost road around the farm. Swim in our pool between the end of May and the end of September, we make frequent trips to town, as well as Lexington and Berea.... It's very scenic here! There are beautiful sunrises and sunsets, as well as wildlife and nature for photographers and artists. Wildlife enthusiasts are welcome to camp out at the farm. Horse enthusiasts can ride our lovely horses.
