    Description

Thank you for reading the ENTIRE profile. It is important to have the best experience for both parties. We decline to potential volunteers who do not to read it.

    IMPORTANT:
-The calendar is up to date. Please do not submit a request for months that appear unavailable.
-The volunteering would be 2 weeks minimum and 3 maximum.
-2 hours / day of volunteering. You are free on Saturdays and Sundays.
-Only ONE person, WOMAN and older than 30 are accommodated.
-I can't host a person who is allergic to cats' fur.

If you comply with the "IMPORTANT" requirements, please, continue reading. If not, please, do not contact me.

    ABOUT ME
Hello girls! My name is Ana, I am 43 years old and I am an English teacher at Primary school.
I am also a French student, and at the moment I am in between B1-B2 level, so I can actually communicate in French about simple topics.
I am looking for a female French speaking person who can teach me more, as I am planning a trip in France next summer and I would like to improve my skills. My other goal is also to sit the B2 DELF examination in the future, so any volunteers who apply need to arrive here at least with the essential information about that especific test.

    THE FAMILY:
I live with Emilio and three cats. Emilio is my husband but he is introverted, so it's hard to connect with him. If you speak Spanish, he will be very happy though.
The day of your arrival I will tell you about my home and show you everything, but you should know that I can provide you with a towel, fresh linen, blankets, etc. You can also use my kitchen.

If you are willing to, I can show you around or even plan a day out in Barcelona (or somewhere else) and I can show you places.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We are a Catalan couple, born in Barcelona, although our families were emigrants originally from other parts of Spain. We have grown up in cultural environments marked by this culture shock and we can explain to you many traditions that we have learned here, or that we learned from the places where our families are from. We know Catalan and Spanish history and a good part of the customs. We are good at recommending places to visit that might be of interest to you. If you are a big fan of history, we can give you a historical tour in Barcelona.

TRANSPORTATION How to get from the airport to our house? At Terminal 2, look for the train station (follow the orange sign with a capital R). Take the only train there is and you will arrive at my house in 45 minutes. Stop in La Llagosta. The best way to travel to Barcelona from the house is by train. Plus, right now it's free to travel by train. Trains run from 5:00 AM to 00:00. If you want to come back later, there are buses, although they are not free.

    THE VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT
I am looking for a person who:
-is knowledgeable about teaching. I am not looking for someone to have casual conversation or chit chat only, but a person who can actually TEACH. Experience as a real teacher would be valuable.
-is available to teach in the mornings only, starting the class at 9:00 and finishing at 10:30.
-can prepare her own teaching sessions

I have my own French books but you are free to bring / prepare your own materials which you think would be suitable for me.
I am absolutely open to possibilities. If you have your lessons planned for my level, I would engage with them. If you prefer to follow a course book of my level, I'm also up for that. If you need that I print something for the lessons, I can do it.

I expect that volunteers work 2 hours per day. That includes 1.5 hours for my class, and 30 minutes to prepare the sessions. Of course I won't be watching if you are using your 30 minutes to prepare the sessions, this is to be done on your own and I won't control it.

    THE HOST'S COMMITMENT
    I can offer:
-BREAKFAST: Breakfast and coffee is on me. It's served at 8:30 the lastest so we can start the class at 9:00. In case of dietary restrictions, let me know.
-PRIVACY: You will be offered a private room with a big bed and desk.
-LOTS OF FREE TIME: When you finish our class, you will have the whole day to enjoy yourself.
-FREE TRAIN CARD: I can offer you a free train card with which you will be able to travel to Barcelona or other places during your stay (only train, no metro or bus).

Sorry that I can't offer lunch or dinner. I want to clarify that I don't do it because it's absolutely impossible for me. I have lunch at school and for dinner, I arrive late at night and not with the energy for cooking after a long day leading with kids. During the days I have time we can plan a dinner together and I can cook for you occasionally. By the way, if you managed to read until this point, mention your favourite pizza in your request.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We live in a small flat (apartment) in La Llagosta, a town right next to Barcelona. The city can be easily reached by train in 20 minutes. Our town is safe and the people are friendly, especially if you present yourself as a traveler, they will want to know everything about you. Don't think we live in an unsafe suburb.

Staying in our house is convenient if what you hope is to get to know Barcelona but living in a quieter place with local people. If you need to work online, you will have a lot of free time and the house is quiet.

It is not possible to open windows in our home because it's dangerous for our cats.
