    Description

Hello and welcome to our new adventure!

We are Ludwig, Raquel, and our two little children Ilea and Tanwen. For almost 7 years we’ve dedicated our time and energy to the Park of Learning, our non-profit project in a land that we love, surrounded by olive trees and forests. After this time and quite suddenly, we were confronted with an important decision to make: either leave the land, or buy the land.

With much difficulty and excitement we decided to buy the land, with all the challenges it entailed. Despite which, we trusted the process to ensure that our now growing project could be economically and otherwise sustainable.

The logistics of this decision and of welcoming our new baby in 2024 led to a small pause and change of pace in the project. But we are now back, energized and excited to share all that is to come in this journey with you!

Our idea for the near future is to develop touristic activities in this beautiful location, combined with some sustainable farming (including mostly olive and almond trees, some vineyards and soon…sheep!). We believe that these activities can be achieved in perfect harmony with our project values, and enhance the experience of all those involved.

We’re always busy and simultaneously carrying out several tasks, but currently we need most help with maintenance work, some examples include:

Clearing the olive and almond fields from branches and regrowths
Making firewood for the winter (also a measure for cleaning the forest and protecting against wildfires)
Help with eco-construction of a small house and other areas using wood, clay and other natural materials
Maintenance and reparation of exterior wooden furniture (such as sanding, oiling, varnishing, repairing etc)
    Gardening
Help with housework and taking care of our beautiful wildling children

These are some examples, but there are many, many other things to do!

First and foremost we are all about learning here, we have no doubt that in a community environment filled with diverse people from all over the globe we are always learning together, and we love to share our knowledge of the land as much as we love to learn from all the people that we welcome to our home.

Heres a bit more information about the project until now, we hope that it resonates with you and that together we can welcome new initiatives and adventures!

    The Park of Learning:

Our project aims to be a physical space in nature where you can find a warm and friendly environment in a calm and quiet oasis, where you can take a break from the stress of daily routines and reflect about life, meditate and most importantly share experiences with others like you. This project also aims to be an environment that generates creativity and welcomes initiatives of all sorts, always respecting others and nature.

We believe groups always help individuals, which is why we consider the Park of Learning to be a constantly changing community of human beings, interested in creating and experimenting together. Its an ideal place to develop and grow with others who are in the midst of similar searches.

    Our philosophy

Our philosophy stems from the realization that we live in a world where violence and suffering are growing exponentially and that we often find ourselves totally helpless in the face of social pressures, constantly changing information and conflict.

We believe- from experience- in the possibility of living a life free of suffering, using open-sourced tools that can help to unbind us from constructed views and beliefs and encourage us to question the way in which we want to live, making the world a happier, more peaceful and healthier place, putting the best of ourselves forward at all times.

We see a difference between what is needed to survive (our basic needs such as food and shelter, etc) and what is not needed for basic survival, but may actually be the most important aspect of our lives: happiness and other states of awareness. So, essentially what is existential, or spiritual.

This spirituality, and all existential matters are commonly shared by all human beings, sometimes in similar and sometimes in different ways. Sadly, almost the only places that offer a space to connect with this spirituality are religious, which although comforting, can also be limited and restrictive in the wider search of spiritual matters. Its also unfortunate that in our current society spirituality has become a source of economic gain, becoming a business and frequently promising unrealistic solutions in time-limited spaces in exchange for money. We unreservedly disagree with profiting from spirituality, as its an inherently human characteristic we believe everyone has the need to unveil and delve into in different moments of their lives. Thats why we wish to create a close-to ideal environment together. We wish to offer the best conditions to delve into that individual and collective spirituality with total freedom to reflect and share with others, learn from others, and consciously help shape a world where spirituality and kindness unites humankind, instead of dividing us…

    Our approach

We designed all the project with a Permacultural approach and are keen to share what we’ve learnt from Permaculture and eco-friendly tvalues that may be helpful to others in their daily lives. The project is designed in a sustainable, ecological and respectful manner towards nature that promotes the experimentation of new eco-friendly technologies, that helps the project gain autonomy. We are constantly learning in this field and are enthusiastic to continue investigating and developing.

The 50 hectares that surround the main house are mostly pine forests in which we continually work in different ways:

    1. Promoting native and natural forest
    2. Management of dense areas to improve biodiversity and reduce the risks of wildfires
    3. Firewood making, also for the reasons above and to promote self sufficiency.
    3. Generating an edible forest
    4. Creation of diverse spaces for gardening and chilling out

Collaborators have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of topics, from permaculture, farming, forest management, eco-friendly construction, dry stone building, gardening, the regenerative care, culture and sowing of olives and almonds, to the process of making extra virgin olive oil, different conserves, living in community, cooking and caring for children amongst many other things. It never gets boring!

    The Land

The land is 50 hectares, full of young pine forest and autochthonous species, gardens and wildlife. There is one main house with a few rooms and shared living areas (including a living room, bathrooms and a 24h available kitchen), and another small house with renovation plans mostly for the purpose of private accommodation of the permanent collaborators. There are also a couple of old ruins which we also plan on rebuilding using a combination of eco-friendly construction methods, always respecting the old structure and appearance of the buildings. Some of these projects are already up and running. Around the house there are plenty of exterior chill out corners, perfect for sharing a coffee and interesting conversations, playing music, painting, reading… Or whatever your heart desires!

The land is on the brink of a huge natural park of wild pine forests, the Gaia river, and beautiful spots of natural pools perfect for swimming and relaxing. There are also a number of castles in ruins and historical monuments, great for sightseeing and trekking lovers. The sea is 30km away from our location, where you can find plenty of beautiful coast lines with secret coves and white sanded beaches. There are many other interesting attractions such as caves, communities, eco-projects, museums, etc. Barcelona is also just a train ride away. So we invite you to enjoy and explore or beautiful surroundings!

Unfortunately we don’t accept dogs on the property, as we have one here, and we take into consideration that other collaborators as many have fears regarding this topic.

In so many ways, the Park of Learning is an excellent opportunity to observe our way of learning, revisiting our social and cultural structures and questioning their value in our present and future. Its also a wonderful experience in community living where every day is an chance to experiment, have fun and share the joy!
