    Description

Hola! Our names are Stendert & Maria. We we run a camp-site in the "midd-of-nature". It is wild, spacey and shadowy, the way our guests can feel they are close to nature & private while camping.

    First IMPORTANT information:
We want stays that are at least a month-long or longer. Please absent to apply if you aim is not such. Important to know that we only offer money during our business high season. Who then aim to apply has to be available continuously for 6-7 weeks from beginning July till the end of August, following a strict rotative schedule of 8h-work. Stays out of this period, so-to-say the rest of the 10 months of the year - has no payment. The stay is on a normal Workaway volunteer basis based upon 5h/d work 5d/w for room and food.

We live in a Catalan country house called Masia, that dates from the 16th century, since now quite some years. Stendert, born '51, originally is from Breda, Holland, and Maria, born '66, is from Stockholm, Sweden, where her parents once had arrived from... Spain. With us lives our daughter Saskia born '02 and sometimes we get the help and visit of Stendert's son - Luuk, born '93. We are accompanied by some donkeys, several cows, and several cats.

We enjoy very much to live here in the countryside surrounded by hills, forests, and rivers. Half-way to the sea and half-way to the high mountains of the Pyrenees. Apart from running, during the summer months, the "wild" camp-site we also have some tourist -apartments.

Our original professions are of the most diverse; Maria studied interior design and artistic glass techniques and Stendert studied to become a tropical agronomist and later carpentry. Probably this multifaceted mixture connects us with many diverse interests and activities, especially the maintenance of our place with its forest, animals, and agro-tourism.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Except for July&August, the stay is a heated room with a, as well heated, bathroom next to it. One floor down there is a large living and kitchen room from where you can prepare your meals. This area has no central heating but a wood-burning stove one has to be able to take care of.
In July&August, there are some caravans and mostly tents for whom coming. The rooms are for the staff that will work as a cook.
As a workawayer, you will have to be able to take care of the chopping off fire-wood and the keeping of the wood-stove - in case you wish to have some heat (it gets cold in winter).
All the accommodations are separate units. This means you can have your own independent life, coming and going as you wish. We will provide essential basic food storage. And the main dish (during the working week, note not on weekends) we eat a warm meal together.
It is a cozy, pleasant and simple living... surrounded by nature.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

The hostel is located at the beginning of the Catalan Pyrenees, a region called the Alta Garrotxa.
The house is surrounded by beautiful nature and lays in a triangle area between the villages of Montagut (3km), Castelfullit de la Roca (6km) and Oix (9km). Not to remote as one can walk down, or lend from a bike, down to the village of Montagut where there is public transport to Olot - mayor city here in the region. , the last stretch of the road is paved and of easy access.

In this region - la Garrotxa, one can experience two completely different types of landscape. A large part of the southern region has more than 40 volcanoes forming a smooth landscape with little slopes, protected by Natural Park of the Volcanic Area of the Garrotxa, while from the Fluvia river valley towards the north, where we are, the landscape changes radically, becoming abundant rough and steep cliffs and gorges. This is the Alta Garrotxa area which is declared National Natural Interest Area (PEIN). Our privileged situation will allow you to conveniently make day-trips throughout the region. Touristic visits to Besalu, Santa Pau or Castelfullit de la Roca or hike trails like Sant Aniol d'Aguja or swimming under the Pont de Llierca bridge in a natural swimming gorge.

There are so many different tasks to do here depending on skill and knowledge, that; anyone who loves nature and likes this type of cultural exchange as a helper for a period will surely get a memorable and life-experience. As long that you have clear that you come to help and there are ALWAYS things to do. We are hard working, like to enjoy and share and thus expect that from you.

Arriving here is easy in the case not having your own vehicle. From Girona Airport there is a shuffle-bus to Girona Bus- & Train-station. From there, there is the public transport bus company - Teisa:... ... that will bring you to our bus stop - 6km away. Take the route through the city: Banyoles and get off at: "la Cruïlla de Montagut". From here will pick you up when arriving. TEISA connects as well with Barcelona, Figures & Vic.
