Description
Hello ! We're a family of 4 with 2 children and a cat. We are both self employed : Marc is a photographer and I'm a naturopathe.
We'd love our kids to discover many cultures and ways of life thanks to our hosts, our travels and adventures.
We're very much into relaxed local/healthy eating and living. We've started our little garden, learning how to grow things in a permaculture way.
We have many different projects that you can help us with, depending on when you come : it goes from cooking to flooring, or computer work to cleaning or gardening and babysitting..! :)Types of help and learning opportunities
Language practiceGardeningDIY and building projectsBabysitting and creative playCreating/ Cooking family mealsHelp around the houseGeneral MaintenanceHelp with Computers/ InternetCultural exchange and learning opportunities
We love travelling and meeting people although we're trying to get our CO2 emissions down now, so travelling differently. We try not to fly anymore.
We speak a few languages. Our kids are a lot of fun (of course can make you very tired, but objectively adorable :)). They only speak fluent French, although we're hoping they can start learning other languages. We'd be happy to teach you some French during meals for eg.
We love nature, and Switzerland, and will be happy to share who we are with you!
If you need any advice, we'll be happy to help if we can.
Our place is in a small village (so little public transport) but central in Switzerland and close to a motorway, 5km out of a little town and shops.Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
We're looking for help from mid April to mid June 2024. We'd love someone who likes to cook and can also help us clean the house. If you're interested in photography, there will also be some photo sorting to be done. If you like gardening, that will be going on as well. If you like children we have 2 you can play with! :)
Depending on when you come, we'll need help with cooking, keeping the house clean, fixing things in and around the house, looking after our children (age 9 and 7), rebuilding a balcony/terrasse, gardening, making my internet site more responsive (Wordpress) or photo editing ...
The children come back from school for lunch and go back to school in the afternoons. So lunch is the main meal at our place, and is always a big help. Its also a great way for us to discover different (food) cultures and usually a nice moment to share. If you like cooking food with healthy products our family would love your help!
During school holidays (mainly July) or after school days our kids love someone to spend some time with - they also like playing with their friends outside if they are around. Kyra and Eliah both love creative projects, playing games, playing in the garden, cooking, legos, and discovering new things and your interests (there is nothing like someone passionate about something). Eliah still needs to practice to loose :)
We'd really like our children to learn more Spanish and English, so looking after them and teaching them some new words would be amazing.
They could teach you some French of course as they are always happy to talk !
We also want to organize different parts of the house and outdoors, so all kind of builders and gardeners are more than welcome! We've done a lot of work on our garden and we'd love some help for our small permaculture project. That could be gardening, fruits picking, watering, etc The fruit picking and preparing them to be dried or frozen goes more or less from May to October depending on the fruit and the weather :)
Marc also needs help editing and ordering photos (mostly in April, May, June, September and October). So anyone interested in photo editing or happy to work on a computer could be of big help!Languages

We would really like our children to learn more Spanish and English. One of their grandmothers speaks Spanish to them but they don't see her enough to actually be able to talk... They don't speak English at all but know a few words from movies :) We all speak French at home and would be happy to help you with your practice! We're usually all home for meals and thats seems like a good moment to share our language. The kids are great with teaching languages as they use more simple vocabulary and love talking, so of course playing with them is also a good option to improve your French.Accommodation
We live in a renovated farmhouse and have a relatively independant room for our workaway guest. It gives a lot of privacy if wanted. (We both work in the house we live in. And the guest room is just next to where we work, so its important not to make too much noise in the room when we're in our office, keep the bathroom clean and close the doors in silence :)).
We live in a small typical Swiss village and have a garden that we share with our neighbours (we're friends).
Good food is very important to us. We cook fresh food every day (once a day) and are happy to do vegetarian or vegan if wanted and would really love to discover your food and ways of cooking. What else ...
We have a spare bike to get you to a little beach close to where we live or to the forest near by. The village we live in is very small so there is not much public transport (a few buses but not many). But 5 km away from our little village is a small town, Avenches, famous for its Roman ruins, where you can get transport to just about anywhere. Public transport is very expensive in Switzerland. A lot of our hosts use hitchhiking and are able to explore the country that way. Or with the bike, you can also get to Avenches easily (bus and train station) in about 20' bike ride, and then get transport from there. Or do it all on the bike or walking for a more sporty version !

During my three weeks with the family, I mostly appreciated the way they speak to each other, the way they spoke to me, and the values that they put central and teach to the kids too... well, I can only say that I learned a lot from each of them.
