Description
Hello! We’re Jack and Emma, two teachers from Glasgow, Scotland who are taking a career break this year to explore Canada.
We are keen travellers and have been to over 40 countries between us. We love meeting new people, seeing places from a local perspective and giving back to the communities which have welcomed us!
Jack (27): I’m an English and History teacher who has been visiting Canada from the age of two. Now, I want to see what life is really like across this amazing country! My interests include travelling, writing (I have a travel blog), and a burgeoning passion for ice hockey I picked up during my year living in Latvia. I won’t tell you my team just yet… I’m open to a range of opportunities, from helping around the house to DIY projects and everything in between. In Scotland we use the word ‘grafter’ to represent someone willing to work hard at any task they’re given - if that sounds like an attitude you could make use of, Emma and I would love to come stay with you!
Emma (29): I’m a qualified History and guidance teacher who loves travelling to new places but hates to leave after only two weeks! I, alongside Jack, want to spend some time exploring Canada at a slower pace to meet some local people who can give us insight to their daily lives. I have spent almost 8 years teaching about Canadian history back home in Scotland so I am thrilled by the opportunity to share my experiences travelling with my students. Much like Jack, I am a hard worker who is not afraid to get her hands dirty with some gardening, helping out around the house, babysitting or any other odd jobs you may need assistance with.
While we are happy to get stuck in with any tasks, our skills include: teaching/tutoring (10+ years experience between us), experience working with children, experience with animals (we are big dog and cat lovers but are keen to work with any and all animals), gardening, admin/online tasks and general household assistance. Jack can lift heavy things. We’re easygoing and flexible with our time, and happy to lend a hand where needed if your projects require a bit extra.
We are interested in a slower style of travel, connecting with hosts and fellow Workawayers to really understand what life is like in the Great White North. We see Workaway opportunities as much more than just places to stay. We are looking for experiences which help us to see new places from a local perspective and to connect with interesting people. We look forward to connecting with you and are happy to answer any questions you may have. -
