Hi there, I am a husband and father of three teenage children and I live and work and in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. Now my children are older, I am keen to take on more cultural experiences and explore first-hand different regions of Europe by working and staying with people. I am learning French and Italian and mainly want the chance to immerse myself in those languages by staying with native speakers.

I am very keen to improve my French and I would welcome any opportunity to speak only in French. I would value any Workaway project where I can completely immerse myself in French, but of course, I am happy to speak English if required. I would also like to work on a project where I can practice Italian. Je suis très désireux d’améliorer mon français et je serais heureux de toute occasion de parler seulement en français. J’apprécierais tout projet Workaway où je pourrais complètement m’immerger dans le français, mais bien sûr, je suis heureux de parler anglais si nécessaire. J’aimerais aussi travailler sur un projet où je peux pratiquer l’italien.

I am a writer by trade, so I potentially have useful skills if you are looking for any type of communications guidance for a business. However, I am also very practical. I have renovated three houses, so I have building and woodwork skills I can use. These skills also extend to outside areas, including building fences and general maintenance of gardens. I have training in mountaineering, climbing and outdoor sports including canoeing. I am very used to working in a team and making sure my contribution makes a positive difference to a project. I am also very experienced in doing physical jobs for long periods of time.

I love the outdoors and I spend a lot of time in Scotland's mountains and wild places, hillwalking, climbing and canoeing. In my spare time I am the author of books about the history and wild places of Scotland. I enjoy travelling, especially in the mountainous regions of France. I am interested in history, art and literature and enjoy meeting people and learning about different cultures. I am particularly interested in speaking and learning more in French.
