Description
Hello! My name is Matt and I'm a Canadian-American from Northeastern USA. I like to think of myself as an adventurous type of person who loves learning about different cultures and thoroughly immersing myself in new places. I think it largely contributes to personal development and I'm very motivated to grow as an individual. I also enjoy doing what I can to help those around me and hopefully make a positive impact within the places I stay. Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, drawing, and especially being active. I love to hike, bike, and play different sports, though my favorite has to be soccer (a.k.a football…). All in all, as long as I'm finding ways to have fun and meet cool people, I'm happy.

I would really love to perfect my French so that I can communicate with the rest of my family living in Quebec. I would also like to practice Spanish if that chance arises. I would be able to teach English if needed, but I'm not sure if I would be the best teacher. Always willing to try!

More details about your skills
With a degree in Environmental Studies, I know a fair amount about gardening, farming, and nature in general. I love anything to do with trees and one of my hobbies is to do plant identification when I'm outside. I'm not exactly a handyman, but I do have basic construction and woodworking skills if my position requires it. I've also been trained as an Outdoor Recreation Guide and possess multiple first aid certifications. I've had the privilege of traveling to four continents and absolutely love discovering new places, though there are still many I would like to go. I like to make things happen for myself and I think that drive is the factor that's allowed me to fulfill my dreams of exploration so far.

What else ...
I mentioned my main hobbies above, but otherwise I like to play most types of board games and card games even if I need to be taught how to play. I also enjoy a good game of chess, though my skill level is most definitely not the highest. One more thing I wanted to emphasize is that I put a lot of stock in simply being somewhere and living in the moment, which is why workaway programs are so interesting to me. I really want to culturally immerse myself and have meaningful interactions with the people I'm with. I hope to learn about the places I inhabit while I'm there and study the languages spoken too.
