Description
Hey, I’m Lena, 26 years old and from Germany.
I grew up in a small village near Hamburg, surrounded by nature and I currently live in the city as a student which I really enjoy. I still feel most like myself when I’m back home – close to fields, lakes, and a slower pace of life.
I’ve always been a bit of a free spirit. I started traveling quite early – for example, I spent time in China when I was 16, which really opened my mind.
Later on, I worked as an au pair in the Netherlands, England, and Finland, taking care of children and animals. Through that, I learned how to adapt, take responsibility, and just jump into new environments.
In 2025, I did my first solo trip to Madeira, and I honestly loved the feeling of freedom so much. That’s also where I met an italian couple who told me about Workaway and I immediately thought: okay, I want to try this too!
Right now I’m studying Social Work, and I’d love to use my summer to travel through Spain, experience the culture, and improve my Spanish.
I understand quite a lot already, but when it comes to speaking, I often switch to English or German – so I’d really love to change that and just start speaking more, even if it’s not perfect.
A bit about me as a person:
I’d say I’m open, warm, and curious. I love being around people, having conversations, laughing, and sharing experiences – but I also enjoy having quiet moments to myself, like reading, reflecting, or baking something.
I’m quite active and love dancing (especially Bachata & Zumba), going to the gym, and just moving my body. Music plays a big role in my life – especially Spanish music like Salsa, Bachata, or Reggaeton.
At the same time, I’m pretty organized and like having some structure, but I can also be very spontaneous (like booking a trip two weeks in advance).
Also I’m very nature loving, active, and health conscious.
I love cooking and baking for others, and I’d be happy to share that with you!
Also: I’m pescetarian (I don’t eat meat, but I do eat fish).
Because of my studies, topics like social justice are important to me – especially women’s rights and LGBTQ+ rights.
I’ve also worked a lot with people with disabilities. For several years, I supported an older man with Parkinson’s, and we even traveled together to Mallorca. That experience taught me a lot about patience, empathy, and responsibility.
I’d say I’m someone who enjoys both sides of life – going out, meeting people, being social, but also having calm evenings with a book. I usually adapt quite easily and just enjoy being part of a place and the people around me.
I’m really excited to experience a different way of traveling, meet new people, and become part of your everyday life for a while.
For me, Workaway is not just about helping, but about sharing, learning from each other, and creating real connections 🌞 -

More details about your skills
I’d say I’m a very hands-on person and happy to support in many different areas – I actually enjoy being useful and part of everyday life :)
One thing my friends always joke about is that I should open a brunch café someday, because I love making breakfast and baking cakes. So if you like good food, I’ve got you covered! I really enjoy cooking and baking for others and trying out new things.
I’m also someone who brings good energy into a group – whether it’s motivating people for sports, planning activities, or just creating a nice atmosphere.
Through my experiences, I’ve learned how to structure and organize daily life quite well. For example, I supported a man with Parkinson’s for several years, helping him with everyday routines like cooking, organizing, and building a daily structure.
I’ve also worked with people with disabilities in different contexts – helping with cleaning, organizing, and daily tasks, but also just being there as a supportive and reliable person.
In addition, I have experience working in social psychiatry, where I supported people with things like grocery shopping, structuring their day, job searching, finding housing, and dealing with paperwork.
Taking care of others is something very natural to me:
I’ve worked as an au pair in several countries, looked after children, taught them some German, and also took care of pets (including puppies, dogs, and cats).
I’d say I’m also a very good listener – I really enjoy deep conversations and being there for people. For example, I accompanied a woman in the final stage of cancer, which taught me a lot about empathy and presence.
On a more practical side, I’ve done a variety of different jobs:
I worked in a law office (organizing files and paperwork), sold fruit during a summer season (so I know a bit about that too), and even helped promote food on social media.
I also enjoy being creative. I’ve been told I have a good eye for photography, and I like capturing moments.
If you’re into dancing, I could also try to teach some Bachata (no promises, but I’ll do my best).
I’m quite organized and like planning things – I’ve even organized parties for friends, but I can also just jump in and help wherever needed.
I’m confident driving in different situations (left-hand traffic in England, mountain roads on islands like Mallorca, Crete, and Madeira), so I’m comfortable if driving is needed.
I don’t have much experience with gardening yet, but I’m very open to learning! I’m generally quick to pick things up – whether it’s painting a wall, assembling IKEA furniture, or helping with more physical tasks (I can carry things too).
I also have a good understanding of nutrition and fitness and enjoy sharing that if it’s something that interests you. -
