Since 7 years we are saving a German fairy tale castle from decaying and being lost in time and make it our private home. We - this is us - Nicole and Axel. Nicole - a professional marketeer, costume designer and garden lover and Axel a professional carpenter and teacher. We do all the craftsmenships on our own in this lifetime project. With us - there a living a bunch of great people in the castle: friends, a baker, a professor and an artist. All in a all - those great people share the castle with 6 cats, a dog and 4 bee colonies. Yes - we also have our own honey. Living with us comes as well with a rare plus - we are real knights. 3 of us are sports professionals in "Full Contact Historic Medival Swordfighting". No show- real sport. Cage fight in a 40kg heavy armor. Ever heard of the "Battle of the Nations" or "Buhurt"? Just have a look in Youtube. So, when you work with us, you are also more than welcome to train with us!
So, if you would have fun helping us with your skills keeping the castle in shape (e.g. gardening, fixing stuff, painting) - you have found the right place to be to support us, share experiences and have a great time! -

Help
As you can imagine - saving a castle from decay and making it our home as a private person is challenging. So we appreciate any help here during your stay. Axel is a well known carpenter for historic buildings and renovating 24/7 our home were we live privately. So during your stay you will not even immerse yourself in history and German culture, you could also learn historic craftsmen skills: from painting the walls, to plaster the cellar (innovative), renovating old furniture or windows (interesting) or making our private castle garden an oecologic paradise for animals (cool). All in our private space, home & private garden. But we also need help with daily duties - like cooking, cleaning, keeping the garden in shape.
So, depending on your profession, skills and experience - we will have the right learning experience for you to spend a great time in a real castle with real knights - lets say just great people who are eager to get to know you! -

What else ...
The castle is located in the middle of Germany, 40mins from Frankfurt. Train and bus services are great and the region itself (Wetterau/Vogelsberg) is full of history. The celts and romans settled here, museums, parks and places reflect that time very well. The hometown of the Brothers Grimm is also nearby - you literally live in a fairy tale area. In not more than 20minutes you are up on a hill hiking, skiing in the winter or swimming in natural lakes in the summer.
