Description
Hi there, Thank you for reading our profile. We’re pretty flexible in general, but would like to find a good match for our workaway adventure to make this experience as enjoyable as possible for both sides. You can learn more about us below, but if there is anything missing that you would like to know, please feel free to message us :-)
We’re Kate and Dima.
We're similar in a way. We absolutely love animals. We've only had hamsters in our little flat, never a dog or a cat, but we would love to do tasks which involve animals. All our previous workaway stays involved pets and we've also done pet sitting though the Trusted Housitters website with both dogs and cats. We'd be keen to learn more about other animals such as sheep or horses.
We're both big fans of junk :-D, i.e. car boot sales, charity shops, upcycling, etc. Most stuff we have, we’ve bought second-hand giving things a new life, plus -we love a bargain. We like watching quizzes and playing board or card games such as Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit or Canasta.
We neither smoke nor drink but have nothing against trying some local specialities, like beer or wine ;-). Theoretically, we’re omnivores, but for the past few months we’ve been trying to incorporate more vegetables into our diet cutting down on meat and dairy, which means we’re actually semi-vegetarian now, but can e flaxible depending on who we're staying with. We like and eat fish but are not that familiar with other seafood because it’s not available where we live. We avoid processed foods trying to make as much as we can ourselves, experimenting with new recipes and ingredients. It’s would be great to learn some new recipes and techniques as well as share our ideas.
We also differ in a sense.
I (Kate) am a CELTA and IBET qualified English teacher totally obsessed with the language and suffering from a bit of an identity crisis feeling that I should have been born in the UK, but something went wrong ;-P If you'd like to improve your English, I would be happy to share my passion for English with you as this is my daily job I absolutely love. As a language teacher, I'm naturally interested in languages and learning another one would be an interesting experience too. I also love discussing the intricacies of English and I’m always keen to find out more about anything to do with the UK and perfect my 'British' English accent. I’m creative too and having tried jewellery making and decoupage I’ve now moved on to sewing. Over the past few years I’ve learnt some basics and I’m able to help with simple projects like cushions, pillow/duvet covers, some simple clothes alterations). I like the idea of being eco and have recently been trying to implement some eco ideas into our daily life. I'm trying to motivate Dima to follow suit :-)
Dima is Ukrainian, but he's been living in Poland for 20 years and has recently obtained Polish citizenship. Being a wastewater treatment engineer, he thinks in a more technical way, which I’m sometimes jealous of. He likes water (obviously) and being outdoors. Also, he's one of very few people I've met that genuinely enjoy doing the washing up and cleaning in general. His English is intermediate, He’s quite good with vocabulary but struggles with grammar. His understanding of spoken English has dramatically improved thanks to hundreds of hours of watching UK TV
We’re no experts when it comes to building and DIY, but we've now nearly finished a kitchen/living room + bedroom renovation in our flat, which we did all on our own (except plumbing & electrics). It included stripping everything to bare walls and plastering, tiling, painting, installing ceiling beams, assembling furniture, laying laminate floor, etc. It was a learning curve but taught us a thing or two :-)
We’re keen to learn new skills and help at the same time. We’re up for different tasks, maybe except for really hard work e.g. lifting heavy things . We’re looking for our next host, where we’d fit in, make a difference and be part of the family or local community.
Here’s a list of some things we did during our previous workaway stays and those we're keen to do during our future workaway travels:
- dog walking
- cleaning
- tiling
- sewing
- laying patio decking
- gardening
- painting (water-based paints, please)
- working at a hostel (reception, kitchen, cleaning)
- anything to do with animal s(we love animals)
Hope to hear from you soon :-)
