    Description

English couple with 1 very spoilt elderly Rough Collie and a young Black Dog.

    Peaceful location in rural France.

We are looking for flexible helpers, happy to help us with whatever the day demands.

We are creating areas for hydroponics, mostly Kratky method, both indoors and out, this will involve land clearing preparing the hydroponics containers and all other aspects of producing crops this way. This is a new project so we will learn together.

We need help with building a fish pond (digging is done), tree felling, wood cutting, plus help with issues as they occur.

Preferably all helpers will be flexible and happy to take on any of the above depending on need and weather. Advice on how to use tools necessary for the work will be given.

We have a number of windows and doors to replace so being able to lift would be an advantage.

We are non smoking and are seeking helpers that do not smoke at all. Helpers should be happy to live as part of the team during their stay, we would expect this to involve helping prepare meals and the inevitable clearing away after.

We accept both skilled or unskilled people.

We prefer people that are happy to work with us or separately as necessary.

We have wireless internet available for emailing and normal surfing. We do not offer the use of our computer.

    Accommodation

You will sleep in the house in a double or single bedded room. In exchange for 25 hours work per week.
Note: we cannot accept helpers with children or pets.
At breakfast and lunch we eat as a group with tea, coffee or anything non alcoholic. This is for safety reasons as you could be using power tools.
After work we normally eat together the evening meal normally consists of 2 courses with wine, beer or soft drinks.
We have a huge selection of movies on DVD if you enjoy them which we watch together. The house is not large but adequate.

The countryside around here is mostly gentle slopes with a few hills.

Our nearest town is St Maixent L'Ecole, it is a historic garrison town worth an afternoon wandering around its old streets. It also houses a military museum within the national NCO college.
Note there is no public transport, so cycling is the only form of individual travel. We visit the town at least once per week when you are welcome to tag along. We are about 1 hour on the train to La Rochelle or by car from Poitiers airport.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Learn how to use all types of machinery safely, and experience the DIY world. Have a different social life than in a big city. I also brew English home-brewed beer which is simple to do once you've done it. Plus the pleasure of drinking it.
