Hello fellow Workaway people!
My name is Patrick. I'm a financial journalist from the UK, but my dream is to invest in a small plot of land in South America and to become self-sufficient.
The problem is, I don't have much experience of living off the land, so I've joined Workaway in order to fix that.
I'm interested to learn about all types of farming, but I'm especially interested in cattle farming.
My plan for the next year or so is to travel around Latin America and to volunteer on various farms.
This will help me to improve my Spanish, and it will give me a taste of how hard this line of work really is.
Many people have warned me that living off the land is not easy, so I am here to find out for myself whether that is true.

I'm a native English speaker and I studied three Asian languages as part of my BA degree: Thai, Indonesian and Burmese... Since my degree, I've also studied Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Portuguese... However, I've forgotten most of the Chinese and Burmese, hence why they don't appear on my profile... I have worked as an English teacher in Thailand and Indonesia... I have also worked as a translator of these languages into English... Communication, but most especially writing, is my passion... In my career, I have worked mostly as a journalist, and every day I have strived to improve my own writing... I therefore LOVE sharing what I've learnt and helping others to improve their writing too...
