Wow, this one is genuinely hard to write. Octave was an absolutely fantastic Workawayer, teacher, and friend. From the beginning, he brought a calm, thoughtful energy into our home and our school. He helped out around the house without being asked, always with respect and good intention, and he made day-to-day life feel lighter and easier for both me and Kheng. In the classroom, Octave was a natural. He taught in a fun, engaging way and had a rare ability to connect with students quickly. The students loved his stories, his curiosity, and his teaching style, he made English feel alive and human, not like a textbook. He also brought so many interesting topics into conversation, and you could see students opening up and becoming more confident because of him. On a personal level, Octave honestly changed the way I think. He helped me open my mind to the world around us and reminded me what life is supposed to feel like, more present, more curious, more real. Even when our schedules didn’t align perfectly, Octave still pushed through to spend time together, get to know us, and be part of the rhythm of the school. That effort meant a lot. Octave stayed with us for around four weeks, and even then I wish it was longer (seriously). Outside of class, he was great company, kind, thoughtful, and always up for a good conversation. And yes… he’s also a world-class badminton player haha. All in all, this goodbye actually hurts, so I’ll say “see you later,” my friend. If you ever come back to Phnom Penh, please remember you always have a home here with us. Vive les traditions françaises et Octave ! Sauvons les sols !

Candice was an amazing host - she was clear with the kind of help she needed regarding the current project, in this case - helping with painting the walls and finishing the floor of the new cottage. She was patient and knowledgeable. She made me feel at home for a week and I enjoyed working on this cool project a lot. On the side, I had so much fun getting to know Maori culture and nice local spots around Rotorua a bit more and Candice was very eager to share her knowledge and overall life experience. Would definitely recommend!

Polina is adorable. She is lovely to have around, and got on very well with all our family and our dog Chai who is going to miss her as much as we do! Polina helped us with lots of tasks around the house including cleaning and cooking. She was very thorough in all her activities, and put in lots of extra effort to get things really nice. She is a very hard worker so keep an eye on her and if she works to hard make sure you give her some extra time off to make up for it! Polina loves to learn new things and had a lot of fun with my daughter learning to use a sewing machine. Ask her to show you the fabulous beach bag she made! Thank you Polina for being so easy to host, for making us lovely meals to eat and for putting up with us all being so crazy busy!!! We wish you all the best in your travels. Anyone who hosts you is very lucky to have you.

I had a great experience with PJ and her family. They were really welcoming and open minded. The work at the farm was really interesting since I haven’t done something like this before and it was absolutely doable. I really enjoyed also the ride to the farm itself. In the evening they cooked for us the most delicious food. And in general PJ and her family created such a nice atmosphere at the hostel. Thanks again for everything!!

I spent a week with Yosuke and Tina at the beginning of March and it was absolutely amazing!! The first night Yosuke took me out to eat ramen and waited for me to arrive even though I got there pretty late (11 pm). They showed me around Tokyo and invited me to eat some really delicious food. Filming videos was very fun, all you have to do is be yourself and say what you notice is different in Japan from your own country and culture! We had a lot of fun together and they taught me a lot of Japanese and about Japan's way of life (table manners are super important!). Overall, I recommend this opportunity to anyone who would love to discover Tokyo while filming some exciting videos with some wonderful people 😁

My friend and I spent a month in wonderful Gomba working at this place. Samuel and his wife, Lucy, are incredibly kind and hard-working people. They will make your stay in Kanoni a wonderful time. The work at the local schools is incredibly giving, and you will most definitely enjoy your stay. The kids are always smiling and want to hug and play with you every single day. Thank you so much to Samuel, Lucy and this place for having us!

I spent 2 weeks with Agnes and Zoran in March. I've got picked up in Jelsa and I was greeted and welcome like an old friend. Zoran said "it's not about the place where you go to but the People" and he is totally right. I feel very grateful to meet you and get to know some of your extra life stories. The mood was very friendly all this time, I enjoyed the conversations and laughs together. We had nice coffee time in the mornings with Zoran, Agnes managed the workdays on the farm and she cooked very delicious and healthy meals every day taking in consideration my milk-intolerance issue. We were on the permaculture farm from 10 AM till 1-2 PM, that is in an advanced state now, we had fresh salad every day. We were pruning the olive trees and then used the chipped green stuff to feed the soil. Finally I've seen a lot in practice of re-generating farming technics. The old town is fabulous with it's narrow streets and stone buildings, everything is within walking and biking distance. Thank you for this classic workaway holiday / bike training / farming experience !!!

A lovely home away from home! I stayed for 1 week at Chris’s place! Which is a beautiful house with amazing views! Raewyn and Chris are amazing hosts! They quickly adapted to my Lacoste intolerance! Avocado brownies 😆 Jobs were varied, from gardening, pruning, helping around the house! Meals were homely and tasty! Thanks so much for hosting me!

日本語↓ We had such a great experience hosting Santiago and would 100% recommend him. I honestly can’t believe he’s only 21—he’s so mature, reliable, and genuinely caring about others. From the very first moment, it felt easy and natural to be around him. He’s always willing to help and puts real thought and effort into everything he does. For example, he filmed a short vlog for us and did it so well, really putting his heart into it. Any host would be lucky to have him!

This Workaway experience is probably the best you could ever get and Lorraine is such a beautiful person that no words could ever explain. Once you reach the location you feel like landing in paradise. The house is literally 10 minutes from the ocean, but in the most quiet place ever. it is surrounded by land, which Lorraine treats like a son. everything in that house is in total harmony. The la d is perfectly taken care of, and the animals are beautifully spoiled. The food is probably the best you could ever think of. There's not a single ingredient in that house which is not healthy and carefully selected. and then Lorraine... Lorraine is just a wonderful person. She is a great listener, a great advisor and an energetic helper. She is one of the happiest people I have ever met, and she's gonna make you feel the same. She has a strong but peaceful energy that makes any person who stands next to her feel at ease and home. The work is not though at all, but perfectly balanced. Lorraine is well driven by the principle that you have to treat others as you want to be treated, and the more you give, the more you'll get. therefore, if you show commitment and respect, you will be given the best experience ever. I totally recommend this experience to the bottom of my heart. it was my first Workaway experience, and it definitely set the bar extremely high! here you will feel this safe, calm, peaceful and ultimately loved... just like a second home !

I stayed at this hostel for 3 weeks and had an amazing experience. I worked on reception which I really enjoyed because it helped me meet new people, learnt something new and brought some routine into travel life. Lucky is a great host who really looks after both volunteers and guests and has created a very social and welcoming place. There are great daily activities organised, and double points if you enjoy surfing, or would like to learn. I made some great friends here and it felt like a little found family for a while. I highly recommend this hostel and thank you again Lucky for the experience! :)

Zoe stayed with us for approximately three weeks. From the beginning of her stay, communication with her was smooth and easy, which we greatly appreciated, as this can sometimes be a challenge with volunteers. She actively engaged in our activities and enjoyed spending time with our guests, contributing positively to the overall atmosphere. Thank you, Zoe, for your support and effort during your time here. We truly appreciate volunteers who give their best.

Susanna spent a week with our community and immediately became a part of it. It was a great joy to share our daily life with her. We especially remember her Italian cooking, skillfully adapted to the improvised and limited Laotian conditions. The children really enjoyed playing with her. Susanna was a great help to all of us. She is a wonderful, creative, and delightful person. Many thanks for all your effort and dedication!

In addition to his skills, he has a great personality and knows how to engage and entertain people, creating a positive atmosphere around him. Thank you, Pepijn, for your support. We always appreciate volunteers who give their best

I had an amazing time in Rovaniemi, Finland, with Chris' help! Chris is very kind and easy to communicate openly with. The work is pretty flexible most of the time, so I had ample free-time for my own plans. Many days I also did activities with Chris, he is very spontaneous which worked well for me to just tag-along day-to-day. Work was mostly help with his renting accommodations for other guests, some tidying, and general odd-jobs around the house. I also designed and painted a mural in Chris' home which I think he was very happy with, and someday I would be happy to return to do another! The location is beautiful and peaceful, 20 minute walk into the town in one direction, and quick access to nature in the other, with Chris' home set up as a little community on Rovaniemi's edge there was always a few different people around, and multiple different rooms that host visitors. I enjoyed cycling, nature-walks, skating, aurora borealis and quiet time in the snow, many of these plans helped by Chris' suggestions. We had many great conversations and I'll be very happy to see him and the other people I met through his community again, either in Rovaniemi or elsewhere in the world! This workaway is perfect for somebody who isn't afraid to live moment-to-moment with flexible plans, who enjoys nature, communal living, and who is good at open communication.

My 2 weeks stay at Daniel's house was okay, The house is a beautiful place located in the city center. Did many hours lots of weeding in the garden, planted some plants, clean-up outside the house and in the kitchen, made orange-and lemon juice. Meals were served a few times, communication could definitely be better, rooms (some shared) spartan furnished. There is still potential for optimization.

Our Workaway experience in Latacunga was fantastic! Vero is an excellent host--she showed us around town, introduced us to some delicious Ecuadorian specialties, took us to the museum, and gave great recommendations to make the most of our two weeks in Latacunga. We had so much fun with her and her family. The school is well-organized, with a fully designed curriculum which is easy to follow. We enjoyed getting to know the students, who were eager to learn and respectful. Our teaching schedule allowed us to explore in the mornings and on the weekends. We were able to visit Cotopaxi, Quilotoa, Quito, and Baños. We appreciated having our own apartment that was close to the school, shops, and restaurants. Our time in Latacunga was a nice mix of teaching, exploration, and cultural exchange. Thanks for the opportunity!

Volunteer here if you want a chance to feel loved by Dani, her team and all the amazing animals! We really enjoyed our time here and everyone helped us to feel so welcome. The volunteer cabin is so cozy and we enjoyed staying with our 3 new amigos (Candy, Pancho, & Tomate). They were lovely dogs to stay with and each had their own brand of cuteness. There were also so many friendly pups we got to take out everyday and get to know. Some like Dominga were big, lanky, and gentle; resting her paws so gently on your shoulders when she wants to be stroked. We also loved the squat & strong, Oso, who was always so unproblematic and calm despite being such a heavy dog! We even discovered a budding romance between Oso and Dani’s Dad’s dog Linda! There was also the pack at Dani’s house where we spent many an evening being covered by at least 6 different dogs vying to be the one sat on the lap. If you like dogs this Workaway will be a treat for you! We worked mainly with Ignaçio (Nacho) who was super fun and kindly helped us to improve our beginner Spanish throughout the 2 weeks! He also patiently helped with our pronunciation and let us practise our newly learned idioms. The walks were always fun and we used the time to listen to audiobooks in Spanish. Gardening was fun and it was nice to be able to spend some time with the horses each evening - something neither of us had much prior experience with! All in all, this Workaway was a super amazing opportunity. We got to hang out with lovely dogs all day and take them for walks, and then had the afternoons to practice a little Spanish, have a siesta, and then work for an hour or two in the evening. It hardly felt like work at all! We will have this as a highlight of our 6 month trip to South America and will remember fondly all the time spent with the dogs and the people that made the time great! Adios! Muchos gracias!
