    Description

Hello there! I’m Noah, from the USA, and I run a small English school here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with my wife Kheng, who is Cambodian. We currently run all roles ourselves with no paid staff. I am the head teacher and manager, and my wife Kheng is the receptionist both in-person and online.

Our school is a small, community-focused school designed to help local students and young professionals develop genuine English confidence, especially in speaking fluency, pronunciation, and everyday communication. We’re not a “big chain school”. We care a lot about quality, structure, and creating a supportive environment where students actually use English, not just study it.

I have personally done workaway in several countries, so I understand what makes a host good and bad. Both me and Kheng are very approachable. So if you have any questions or issues, you can ask either of us!

We’re based in Phnom Penh, in a quiet neighborhood where you can experience the real rhythm of city life without being in a chaotic party zone. Phnom Penh is full of energy, history, amazing food, and friendly people, yet it’s still very easy to settle into a routine here.

On your off days, we’re happy to help you explore local markets, street food spots, local cafés, and other city highlights. If you stay longer than three months, then we may travel around Cambodia and go camping, and you will be welcome to come with us!

If you want a Workaway that feels authentic, impact-driven, and connected to local people, you’ll love it here. You’ll help students improve their lives through English, and you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Cambodia, not just a tourist experience.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

During your stay cultural exchange will happen naturally every day because our school is built around real conversation and connection. You won’t just “visit Cambodia”, you’ll be interacting with Cambodian students, families, and our local community in a meaningful way.

In our Conversation Club you’ll talk with Cambodian students about real-life topics (work, culture, goals, travel, family, food, daily life). This way you will be invited into a more authentic side of Phnom Penh, not just the tourist areas, but the everyday rhythm of the city.

If you’re social, we often do simple local things together like grabbing iced coffee, trying street food, visiting markets, or relaxing at riverside.

With us we can give you both a local and foreigner perspective on how Phnom Penh really works (transport, food, etiquette, safety, where to go, what to avoid). Also traditions, holidays, daily life, and the “unwritten rules” that foreigners usually don't bother to learn.

Language + communication: you’ll naturally pick up some basic Khmer phrases and learn how locals communicate (which is super helpful in Cambodia).

Us and our students would also love hearing about your country, your travel experience, and what motivates you, our students genuinely enjoy that cultural exchange and it helps build community. We would also love any fresh ideas for teaching, conversation activities, and creating a more positive learning environment.

We want Workawayers to feel like they’re part of our small team, not a worker, not a tourist. If you enjoy real human connection, helping people grow, and living in a calm area while still being in the capital, you’ll fit in perfectly here.

    Help

We’re looking for friendly, talkative, and reliable people who speak English (native or near-native is ideal) and also enjoy English conversations with non native English speakers, and want to support a growing local school in Phnom Penh.

During your stay we would ask that you help support our Conversation Club, by leading classes, helping students with their pronunciation, confidence, and natural speaking. Ask students good questions and keep the class energy positive!

We want someone who is supportive, patient, and motivating towards the students (not strict, not “teacher ego”) Also we prefer someone who is energetic and friendly, students should feel comfortable talking with you

This is best for someone who wants real cultural exchange and enjoys interacting with locals in a meaningful way. Your presence helps students build confidence fast, and you’ll be part of a small team growing something real.

    Accommodation

We offer a private room in our home (same place as the school). It’s simple and not very big, but it’s clean, safe, and secure.

We'll provide the essentials and also a fan to keep you cool, basic storage space, and a desk and chair where you can work or relax after a long day. We have a shared bathroom and shared common areas.

Kheng can cook you Khmer dishes however she is not very knowledgeable in Western style dishes. We would love to try new food! So Kheng can cook you Cambodian food or we can provide you ingredients and you may cook.

We’ll keep the space respectful and comfortable, good for someone who wants a calm home base while experiencing real life in the capital.
