WOW. Such a breathtaking place in every way, a must see experience. As our teenage daughter put it: "wherever you look you see a natural wonderland". (Rainbow, mountain range, peaceful pasture with sheep, amazing sunsets and moon rises, ocean view, vibrant bright colours, vast open spaces, dynamic terrain, multiple types of bush, crystal clear air). Huge respect for Fiona and Peter for being able to run such an enormous and diverse operation to the level of excellence. Hard working couple who put in twice as much effort into every day thanus volunteers, to maintain ornamental gardens to the highest British standards, food gardens to provide for the household, allowing us to have delicious meals in the welcoming company of a tight-knit family. Thank you for letting us have an inside of New Zealand at its best!

It was really nice to be part of a real kiwi rural family life, Craig and his kids welcomed us into their home, and they involved us not only in farm work, but family meals, and pastimes. We had very lively evenings with music in their farmhouse and this was the first time we could visit an authentic New Zealandian maimai. Craig helped us with some administrative affairs and also made us realize that the ultimate solution to every household issue is in fact a tractor! :D

A really special combination of an artist studio, a builder's workshop, a food garden and biodiversity in a lovely setting. We were mostly involved with gardening during our two week stay at Evelyn and Jon's place. They were both really helpful in giving advice on places to see. Thank you for letting us see these beautiful glass art. A very cute and lovely dog Maggie. Also, a unique opportunity to take the bestest peacock pictures of your life!!!

We needed an emergency plan in the Christchurch area and Margaret reached out immediately, despite being in a temporarily tight spot herself. She was welcoming and interested and helped us in many ways not only during our stay but also since. As it was not a planned stay, we did a bit of gardening but basically ended up mostly house-sitting while she had to go away. We are forever grateful for her generosity, it meant a lot to us!

I was the first volunteer at Ignacio's place and it was a great experience. The work is very achievable and you get to stay at his wonderful project right in the centre of the hills. Ignacio is a great host who went out of his way to make sure I got to know Valparaiso properly, and he's a great ambassador for Chile (and South America more widely). I wish him all the best of luck and hope to come back to see the finished project one day :)

I love Workaways! It is such an enriching experience and Emi and Klaudiutz added to that with their stay here. Such wonderful work ethics with both of them having their own set of skills and approach. Emi had great determination to see a project through to the end and Klaudiutz’s attention to detail saw a way better finished product than I ever would have been able to achieve! They are both truly beautiful souls and I love looking around and seeing a little bit of them both everywhere I look in the tasks achieved. They have contributed so well to my little place in The Far South of Tasmania and I am sure a little piece of Tasmania made it in to their hearts as well. They are lovely easy going, smiling and helpful humans and I miss them as soon as they left! You will love to have them share your little world also I just know. I feel so grateful for the experience.

Sarndra is lovely. She’s been a volunteer herself and hosted for many years, so she knows what we need and is always happy to help. Her garden is amazing, and what she’s been able to do by herself and with her army of volunteers is inspiring. In fact, she can tell you stories of previous volunteers whose lives were changed because of their experiences there. The work is enjoyable, within your capabilities, and Sarndra is always there to provide detailed and specific guidance. She also knows how to pick her people, so the other workawayers who go are great. If you’re looking to stay in the area, I would definitely recommend.

Staying at Mike's was the first workaway experience that I've had, and I couldn't recommend him enough. He is down to earth, extremely knowledgeable and a great facilitator. If you want to learn more about the natural world and great landscaping/gardening techniques, Mike is your man. The land he is on is beautiful and the project he is undertaking is really fulfilling work. I had a great time helping with weeding, mulching, topping trees and building a bike track, and had a great time with the other workawayers too. Mike is warm, welcoming and very generous. I felt very lucky to have had this opportunity.

I had an amazing stay at Amir's place. The place is so beautiful surrounded by nature and animals. Amir has a lot of different projects to make this place even better where you can be a part of. I helped him with a natural pond and we did some brainstorming, woodworking and collecting stones for the pond. I also did some gardening and cleaning tasks. In general you don't work too much and have interesting different opportunities. Also Amir really bring you in contact with the locals. For example we went a few evenings at the village for karaoke with the locals or he took us to a local wedding. All in all a perfect time with Amir and the other workawayer. I hope I see you again Amir

I arrived here as a slightly nervous 18-year-old, not really knowing what to expect and just hoping for the best. From the very first moment, Peco, Sarah and Aunty Ninny welcomed me with so much warmth and kindness that I immediately felt at home. We clicked straight away, and that feeling only grew stronger over time. What was meant to be one month turned into four and I ended up spending my entire time in Australia here. Life here is what I would call “cozy chaos”, in the best way possible. From spontaneous movie nights with popcorn and pizza to BBQ evenings with beer and sausage sizzles, there was always something going on. Whether it was spending time with the kids, helping around the house, or being outside, there was never a dull moment. Over the past four months, I’ve met so many wonderful people and had so many unforgettable experiences, all thanks to Sarah, Peco and aunty Ninny . They truly want the best for you and make you feel included from day one. I also got along so well with the rest of the family, which made everything even more special. The area they live in is beautiful ,a lovely town with everything you need, surrounded by nature, with kangaroos jumping in the backyard. The animals around the house complete the whole Aussie experience. I came here not knowing what to expect, and I’m leaving with more than I could have ever hoped for — not just memories and lessons, but an extra family on the other side of the world. I will always be grateful for these four months of laughter, warmth, and what I call my “Aussie Home” 💛

Pedro, reading your words truly touched my heart. From the moment you arrived, you brought such positive energy, kindness, and dedication to the school. It didn’t take long before you felt like part of the family — because you truly became part of it. The children still talk about you and the games you played together! Your patience and enthusiasm in the classroom made a real difference, and your presence brought so much joy to our small rural school. It means so much to us that you connected not only with the students, but with our community and daily life here in Kampong Kdei. Thank you for your open heart, your help, and the beautiful conversations we shared. Volunteers like you remind us why we started this journey in the first place. You will always have a home here with us. We look forward to the day you come back. With gratitude, Sokear, Sen, Lin, and all the children 💛

Dada J is a wonderful being and I enjoyed my time immensely. Amazing space to work and live in, and great people are attracted to it. I found the work to be well-paced and well-defined, and not too strenuous. Late night conversations with my fellow retreat participants, incredible stargazing. Expressing joy and gratitude through word and action comes easily at the center. Thanks Dada J, may we cross paths again someday.

Vous êtes tellement gentils, aimables et drôles! On a passé plein de beaux moments ensemble que nous n’oublierons jamais. Dès le premier moment, on s’est sentis vraiment à l’aise chez vous. We loved playing with the girls and it was also a great experience to spend alone some time with them. They are so sweet! We were very happy to help you with the girls, but also in the household and in the garden. We always had a choice between different tasks. Everyday life with you was so easygoing, even when there were many meetings and things to do. You were always respectful and in a good mood. We enjoyed the conversations, learned a lot about children and parenting and we had a lot of fun together. You will always have a place in our heart!

We had a really nice stay at Kik's and Tan's farm! Work is not hard giving a lot of time to explore around. We had nice conversations learning about thai culture, food was amazing (Kik did her best to cook vegan for us), they are lovely people and the animals (two cows) were so cute. They decided to take care of a small cat that followed us to the farm. A really recommended Workaway🌻 Thank you Tan, Kik and Macon and hope to see you again!

This community was definitely formative for me. I planned on staying for 1 month and ended up staying for around a year! I expanded my building experiences helping with the sauna, tiny homes and a bathroom. I worked with a friend to build a full live in treehouse here which felt very deep and meaningful. I was challenged by the realness of community living, but I believe this challenge was very important for me. community living isn't easy but it is worth it! I have continued to stay connected to Buckhorn for many years since initially volunteering and I am very grateful for this place and all the people who live here. highly recommend to those looking for a community to drop into!

Staying at Scott and Cassie's was an amazing experience. My first host on workaway and they did not disappoint. Most importantly I learned a lot about independence. Staying on a farm, and being close to nature, waking up to the amazing view of the mountains every morning, and seeing the stars at night was just amazing. And btw, the eggs from the chickens were the best I ever had. Also, the earthship from hemp is also an amazing project that's bound to leave you inspired. Their kids Astra and Bailey are also wonderful children. Really grateful to this wonderful family for housing and feeding me. Looking forward to hopefully seeing the finished earthship soon. Cheers!!!

I was staying at Jacquelin’s place for about five months. It was definitely a memorable experience. I stayed busy with making firewood, fencing, and gardening projects. Because Jacquelin was going through a very demanding time personally, coordination and planning were sometimes a bit scattered, and it wasn't always clear what the next steps or the right tools were. However, I fully understood the circumstances and appreciated the trust she placed in me. I’m happy I had the chance to stay and help out!

I had such an amazing experience volunteering here! I originally planned to stay for just two months… but I ended up staying four months — and that says everything about how special this place is. The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, and full of good energy. Erick is a great host — easy to talk to, open-minded, and always ready for a good conversation. Communication was smooth, and I always felt heard and appreciated. And I have to mention the two little dogs — they are absolutely adorable! They bring so much joy and love to the place and quickly became part of my daily happiness. The hostel is located in beautiful Puerto Vallarta in the center, an incredible city by the sea. You get the best of both worlds: beach life, sunsets over the ocean, and a vibrant town full of culture, good food, Party and friendly people. It’s truly a special place to live and volunteer! I’m very grateful for my time here and would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a meaningful stay in Puerto Vallarta. Thank you for everything!
