    Description

Help needed changes week to week, season to season and can include assistance around the house (cleaning, cooking), gardening, occasional childcare & eco projects such as developing vege garden. It does not include farm work.

We are located on a family farm, near Southbridge & Leeston, approx 40 min drive from Christchurch city centre. Our family at home includes my 19 year old son (a keen guitar player & singer) and my younger kids aged 10/11. Our farm is a crop & sheep farm & we also winter cows. The surrounding area is the rugged coastline with access to fishing, jet boating and seasonal whitebaiting (NZ delicacy). Leeston is a 8min drive away and has amenities such as supermarket, butcher, bank, medical centre, pharmacy, pub & cafes. Im a keen skier & Mt Hutt ski field is located an hour away. My sister also is a WorkAway host located just down the road from us.

You will get the opportunity to experience open spaces, fresh air and if interested can check out what a kiwi farming lifestyle looks like (not work in it). The rugged beach is stunning for an evening bonfire, the local lagoon boasts birdlife such as swans, geese, ducks, fishing is close by and if we have time we could possibly head out jetboating. Ive lived & worked in Switzerland, UK & Australia & we love hosting people from abroad.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have your own private double room in the house or we also have a caravan. The bathroom is shared. The house is cosy in winter with a fire and heatpump. We share our evening meal together (generally not vegetarian) and lunch/breakfast can be made by yourself as required.

    What else ...

The Intercity bus service stops in Rakaia close by, we are happy to pick up from a bus stop to accommodate our WorkAways. There is plenty of parking on the farm if you have your own vehicle. Days off could be spent fishing, beach walking (no swimming at this beach due to currents), bird watching, cycling or walking some of the close by tracks or just exploring the farm or hitch a ride with me to the ski field! Happy to also drop off to a bus stop close by if you are wanting to head into the city for the afternoon/day.
