Ayane is a very cheerful and bright girl. She is very dedicated to her studies and was studying Arabic every day. Since she had to learn all the house tasks in a short period of time, I think it must have been challenging for her. However, she has an excellent memory and was able to pick things up very quickly. She is not particularly strong physically, so vacuuming and mopping sometimes took her a bit more time. Especially with mopping, she often used one hand, so it occasionally felt like the pressure wasn’t strong enough. She usually came home around or just after 8 p.m., so most of the cooking help was done by Päivikki, a Finnish woman she was working with. However, Ayane always helped with cleaning up after meals. Since she is still young, there were times when Päivikki, who is in her 60s, took more initiative. But I believe that when Ayane needs to manage things on her own in the future, she will handle everything properly. Her vacuuming was quite thorough, and she made sure to clean even the corners carefully. Ayane is also very good at building relationships. She is intelligent and knowledgeable, and can easily keep up with conversations on a wide range of topics, even among adults. Talking with her is always enjoyable, and she brings fresh ideas that reflect her youth. At the moment, there is also a 19-year-old boy from the UK staying here, but compared to him, Ayane is much more mature. The speed at which she corrects her mistakes really shows how strong her memory and understanding are. She is kind and open-minded, never holds negative feelings toward others, and is always friendly to everyone. She treats people equally regardless of their nationality, and her openness is something that makes her very likable. She also has a great sense of fashion and wears pastel-colored outfits in different styles every day, which was lovely to see. I hope that this sweet Ayane will grow into a wonderful woman and come visit us again someday. Although our time together was short, it was truly enjoyable. Thank you so much for coming to stay with us.

I volunteered here for 15 days, and it was truly an amazing experience. The eco-village is massive, with so many activities happening around the ashram, making every day engaging and meaningful. The food was really good, and I had the chance to meet many wonderful fellow volunteers during my stay. It’s a space where you can relax, grow, build spiritual connections, and feel close to nature. I was also responsible for creating a video for the ashram, and I sincerely hope I was able to give my best during those 15 days. There were just a couple of areas that could be improved. The dormitory could have been cleaner, as it didn’t feel well-maintained at times. Also, having Wi-Fi access in the dorm would be helpful, since we had to go all the way to the reception area to use it. Apart from these small drawbacks, everything else about the experience was truly wonderful.

My experience as a volunteer in Arusha was a complete 10/10. It was one of my first times in Africa, volunteering through Workaway. From day one, they welcomed you warmly, making you feel like one of their family. Special mention goes to Veronica, the volunteer coordinator, who picks you up at the airport and takes you back. She and Ruth are two lovely women who, after finishing work in the office around 7:00 PM, stop by the volunteers' accommodations to spend some time with you, play cards... and that's much appreciated. Besides them, special mention goes to Joseph and the entire office team. I worked on an educational project in schools, and the experience was wonderful. Both the teachers and the children welcomed you warmly from the very first day and were delighted to have you there to help them. But one thing to keep in mind is that they're not looking for you to teach for a few weeks. Instead, they want you to use your time there to teach the teachers techniques for the future so they can teach the children. I brought them school supplies, which they were thrilled about, and I left my computer there for a teacher who needed it much more than I did. The volunteer house is very nice, with space for about 12-14 people, a bathroom with a European-style shower, and everything is very basic and comfortable for the volunteers. The food they cook is delicious and plentiful. Finally, I'd like to emphasize that it's a tough experience, but one that teaches you a lot, especially if you go alone. If it's your first time in Africa and your first time volunteering, I recommend going with someone you know or making sure you'll be accompanied by another volunteer during your stay, because the experience is very different when you're alone versus when you're with someone.

We stayed with Victoria and her son for two weeks and had a really nice time! We worked 6 days, 5 hours a day, and we were helping with household tasks like washing the dishes and hoovering, we went on walks with their dogs, we spent time with the foster kittens, and helped with wallpaper stripping. We had a lot of time to spend time outside and by ourselves, but we also spent most of the evenings together, eating dinner, talking and playing games, which was also very nice. Both of them are really kind and caring, and the dogs and cats are very cute and lovely. We stayed in a nice room with a cozy bed, Victoria bought and prepared our food, and we felt really welcomed in their house. Thank you for that time and experience, we really enjoyed staying with you :)

I spent 2 weeks with Graham’s family, working and enjoying the peaceful environment and the rhythm of nature. During that time I learned through work about Graham’s way of connecting with and respecting nature in a very practical and caring way. I truly appreciated how deeply and seriously he values nature, and with a massive work has made the garden and the land look so very beautiful! We had many meaningful conversations while working, and I always felt there was space to share and be heard. Many times deep talks continued with the rest of the family, gosh I really miss the atmosphere in the living room and Saranne’s warm smile! And I will NEVER forget how you, Saranne, introduced me to the “golden treat” - Marmite! Ah, best! I also loved how the house was often filled with music, and it was a joy to witness the childrens creativity and talent. This place is perfect if you as a workawayer want to feel part of a family’s daily life. :) The house is very cozy and it was also very nice to take their dog Ziggy for long walks and admire the hills around home. Working with Graham was clear and well-structured, and it was rewarding to see the results of our work. Communication was easy, and I really appreciated the variety of tasks. Graham is easy-going and fun to work with! I also learned that I can get further than even expected when the atmosphere is encouraging. Thank you for that! Shared meals were also super nice, especially the olives and wine from the farm. Here I felt "Dolce vita!" Like I said many times during my stay: thank you, Graham and your lovely family, I feel spoiled. 🧡

Tara is such a nice person. She joined our farm for a while and quickly settled in. Communication was always clear and positive. She approached everything with a calm attitude and did her best. She was respectful and balanced. Overall it was a nice experience. We would be happy to have her again.

Jade is such a wonderful person. From the minute you meet her you can tell she is intelligent, hardworking and very easy to get along with. We were very sad to see her leave. Everything she does is with great care and attention. You can trust Jade to do anything and it will always be done to the highest standard. Jade can see what needs doing and will take initiative. As just one example out of many, we asked her to sow some seeds, and she also tidied and organised our potting shed. We were especially grateful of this quality in her. She is a kind and caring person and even looked after our other WAs. Jade did many different things here: She serviced our bicycles, turned compost and spread it, helped us with our roof renovations and took great care of the animals. She is one of those people you wish you could have around all the time. Jade is one of the world's truly good people.

Kristie was an absolute pleasure to host. She is a true dog lover and exactly the kind of person we were hoping to welcome into our home. She has a natural understanding of animals and treated them with great compassion and care. She was also a wonderful help around the house—keeping everything clean and tidy—and even cooked some delicious traditional dishes for us, which we really appreciated. Kristie is very kind, easy to communicate with, and a genuinely lovely person to have around. We would happily host her again and highly recommend her to other hosts.

It was my second experience on WorkAway and I am soooo glad to met this amazing family :) The house is in the middle of nature and hills/mountains and it's so beautiful there! perfect to calm down and to get a totally different experience compared to the cities and touristic side of Morocco. The family is warm and welcoming and I felt very comfortable. My task was to spend time with Issa, the child. It was totally easy and straightforward, as he has tons of ideas and is incredibly creative. This family has a big part in my heart and I will come back as soon as I am in Morocco again!!!

I’m lost for words to describe the incredible adventure I’ve had! Camille is so welcoming, she looks after every single Workaway volunteer who crosses her path, from explaining the work to suggesting walks, recommending climbing spots, cooking delicious meals, and telling us where to go for a nice spritz – and so much more! She’s open-minded, funny and thoughtful. The work is physical, varied and you never get bored! In February and March we prepare the ground, so get your arms ready for some heavy (and fun) wheelbarrows! There’s a magnificent climbing spot accessible from the campsite! I’ll be back 💙 Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I had an incredible time staying with Rui and his mom ! From day one, I felt welcomed and like part of the family. The tasks were clearly explained and I felt my contribution was really appreciated. The accommodation was simple but cosy. If you're looking for a meaningful exchange with lovely people, I can’t recommend them enough.

Kevin and Melissa stayed with us for almost two months, and without a doubt, they are among the best volunteers we’ve hosted so far. They are both very social and easygoing, always happy to chat and connect with others. But when it came to work, they were focused, serious, and highly professional. They worked with minimal supervision and consistently showed strong initiative, often taking full responsibility for tasks on their own. They never worked by the clock — they worked until the job was done. Their attitude was inspiring to other volunteers, and they often went beyond working hours, even helping during their days off. Kevin is a very wise and experienced person who knows how to get things done. He has a strong practical approach and a lot of life experience. He especially enjoyed working with the soil — he transformed a rough patch of land into a productive vegetable garden, where we are now growing tomatoes. He also created additional garden beds for future crops like eggplant and spinach. One of his biggest contributions was helping us redesign and rebuild our irrigation system across our 7-acre fruit forest. He carefully studied the old system, mapped it out, and planned new irrigation lines for recently planted saplings. He completed most of this work over a few weeks, with support from another volunteer, Marcus. In addition, Kevin also helped us expand our business connections internationally, including reaching out to contacts in the US and arranging meetings for us. He has been not just a dependable volunteer, but also a great friend. Melissa is an incredibly strong and proactive person who naturally improves any space she is in. She took great care in maintaining cleanliness around the farm, regularly volunteering to clean dorms and common areas. She also took exceptional care of all our animals — feeding them, bathing them, treating fleas, and giving them lots of attention and affection. She built a special bond with our dogs, especially the puppies, even training them with basic commands like sit and lie down. She played a key role in improving the health of our animals, including helping nurse our dog Robin back to recovery from a skin infection. She also learned how to milk our cow here and quickly became very skilled at it, taking responsibility for it every morning — even on her days off. Beyond farm work, Melissa also contributed her engineering skills. She designed plans for an improved cacao fermentation setup and assisted in drafting irrigation system layouts with Kevin. She also added creative touches around the farm, including helpful signboards for volunteers. One of her standout contributions was organizing a chocolate tasting event at a café in Mangalore, where around 20 people attended and experienced multiple chocolate brands along with our own. She handled the entire event with great initiative. Together, Kevin and Melissa were also involved in cacao pod breaking and the fermentation process. They even extended their stay to experience and contribute to the full cycle. They were always exploring the local area, visiting nearby farms, and engaging deeply with the experience. They were incredibly supportive of other volunteers — offering help, encouragement, and care. Melissa, in particular, became like an older sister figure to many, always looking out for others and making sure no one felt left out. We would absolutely love to host them again in the future and highly recommend them to any host. Wishing you both a wonderful journey ahead — you truly are amazing people.

Julian is kind and hardworking. He was able to tackle challenging tasks we gave him, while still balancing his own remote work schedule. His personal work never interfered with the quality of work he completed. Julian has some building skills and helped us successfully complete a wood and polycarbonate greenhouse, which incldued: using powertools such as skillsaws, chopsaws, and drills, digging post holes, leveling land, and pouring concrete, and installing windows and polycarbonate. He also helped make garden beds and haul sheep manure (which was not an easy task). He did this all without complaining, questioning our methods and communicated clearly during tasks. We were incredibly impressed with his willingness to learn and help. When given direction, Julian is able to complete tasks with little to no additional help. He keeps shared spaces clean and we loved how much compassion he had for our animals. Julian would be a great asset to any project.

It was awesome to have Nikki come and stay. She’s really fun to have around, great to chat to, straightforward, honest and a really lovely and considerate house guest, offering to help around the house as well as on the main project. Nikki is a proactive, interesting and enthusiastic person. She’s also a keen worker, and a very practically-minded person who thinks about the best approach to a job and carries it out in a logical way. She learnt new skills quickly and has good abilities with gardening and building tasks. We had lovely evenings sharing stories, and some really fun music jam sessions. We're looking forward to welcoming her back when she’s back in Christchurch en route to return home, and have no hesitations recommending Nikki to anyone.

I was so grateful to get to stay with Nicki and help out in the house and on the farm! It was exactly the kind of experience I needed to feel more grounded on my travels. I was in peach season paradise and we shared delicious dinners, often with other family too. Nicki has been a world traveler and truly knows what it's like to be a volunteer, and she really made me feel comfortable and welcomed. It was great being around Luna the dog too. I did a variety of tasks and we often worked alongside each other- from planting trees to cleaning while it was raining. Thanks so much Nicki for welcoming me and being incredibly kind! Please keep me posted on the bioswale tree planting in the future ☺️
