I loved my time at the hostel :) all the staff were very friendly and made me feel so welcome. Really great location for exploring the waterfalls, volcano and the city. I worked on reception, the bar and helped clean. Hanna was always clear with explaining the tasks and flexible with changing shifts if needed. I would love to come back one day! Thanks for everything:)

We had great last days in New Zealand staying with Alison and Steve. It was perfect to end our trip and the tasks were simple to do. We did some cleaning and weeding in the garden and the public transport to the city was quite good. Alison and Steve were very kind and lovely and the food was always good! Totally recommend to stay with them :-)

It was a total pleasure having Romaine stay for a month and help us with various tasks in the studio, garden and cottage. Romaine brought a friendly, openminded and calm energy to our home and to whatever he did - whether varnishing woodwork in the studio, gardening or making the most delicious Fondue and bread! The weather here can be quite extreme over winter which means helpers need to be flexible about the jobs they do plus I had to leave home for a few days. Romaine was very adaptable in dealing with these unexpected changes and I implicitly trusted him to look after the cottage and our two cats. Myself and the cats will miss him. We wish him a fantastic journey ahead!

Rebecca was truly the best host any backpacker could ask for. From the very first day she made me feel completely welcome and at home. She is such a kind, generous and supportive person. Her boys are also such a joy to be around. The tasks were very fair and manageable and Rebecca was always so appreciative! The location is central and there is so much to see and do around Mona Vale that I was never bored. This Workaway exceeded all my expectations and I will always look back on it with so much gratitude. Thank you so much for everything Rebecca. I’m beyond grateful for this experience and I will definitely be back one day!

I stayed here as part of a workaway group at the start of February - it's an experience I will remember forever. Mish and Nige are both incredibly knowledgeable and importantly, love to share everything they know about nature, conservation and life. This is more than just a project regenerating native bush, it is helping to create bonds with the local community and all the volunteers who stay here. The work is varied and rewarding - across my 5 days here I was involved in painting, weeding, nursery work, track building and maintenance, and trapping. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves to be outside, and is curious about nature and the world around them - this place is special!

My time with Carlos and Poppy was very short, because sadly it was not quite a fit with me. The place is very nice, very rural and quiet just like a typical refugio. They are very passionate about their project and ideas and very impressive people! I really enjoyed the work, it's physical but also relaxed. There is always something to do and fix around the house and it is a bit messy, but if you're a bit more easy going than I am in that regard it should work well. Also the work in itself is only 4 hours but obviously you have to get to the place of work first so a lot of times you will end up being busy 5 - 6 hrs, just to keep in mind. When I arrived, they had a family emergency, so everything was a bit all over the place and for me it didn't work out in the end. Carlos was very understanding and it's definitely a nice place with nice people and a very cool project.

I had a great time hosting Harry and Capucine. Capucine was the one who contacted me. I could see from the start that she was professional from the way she communicated; it was quick and and clear. Harry is a knowledgeable man; you can talk to him about anything. Capucine was truly helpful. She even worked on her own time to get things done. In addition to the hard work on the farm, Capucine kindly helped me organize the kitchen and cooked many wonderful meals. The house was clean and organized when they were here. They both helped me with laying bricks for the garage entrance, collecting leaves for composting, helping in a wood workshop, working with children at the local school, and etc. They didn't have dietary requirements, so we went out and tried out tasty local food at many places!

Staying with Espe and Seba was wonderful! The work at reception is fun and easy and the whole hostel is very clean and calm and has a cozy and friendly feeling to it. In the same way the guests are also mostly very nice and relaxed. I ended up staying for 6 weeks and I got really lucky because I broke my foot and they kept me around and managed it, so that I could still work :) They were so kind and helpful and fun, I reallyreally enjoyed my time here. Thank you Espe and Seba for inviting me to your home and being such nice people! I'm so happy to have gotten to know you and I'm hoping very much to see you again in the future! 🌻

Our time with Carlo with excellent. He is an industrious person and kept himself busy either weeding the vegetable garden which he did very well, or splitting a huge pile of gum logs for our fire. This was exceptionally heavy work but he did it very willingly and with great humour. He was good to talk to and was always so obliging of what we asked him to do. We would recommend Carlo as a very nice person, a very willing worker and just good company to have around. We met his partner, Natalie, as well and she is also very nice, although she didn't work on our property but had another job a long way over the other side of Christchurch city. They left the flat very nice and clean and even changed the linen and washed it for me!! If you have them working for you it would be a great experience and would definitely improve your life.

Ruby was a pleasure to have at the farm and I would definitely recommend her to other hosts. She stayed with us for 2 weeks and then returned for another 5 days. She has a bubbly personality and a positive outlook - she was always making us smile! She was also easy going and happy to help with any tasks. I'd welcome her back anytime.

Thank you so much, Albert, for the marvelous two weeks we spend together. We had rough weather these winter days. It was cold, wet and windy outside, but the fire was burning in the stove and we kept the spirit high while working in our clay house. Albert was very knowledgeable and hands on with the tasks that were needed. We listened to sunny music while working and enjoyed the time spent together. In the evenings we would often play board games and Albert gave us also some chi gong lessons, that were very valuable for us. We shared some deep conversations and had quite some common ideas about life itself.

Caroline is the kind of volunteer who changes the feeling of a place simply by being there. She carries a rare, uplifting energy that draws people together and makes everyone feel seen, welcome, and included. Whether sharing an adventure or a simple day’s work, she moves through each moment with warmth, positivity, and an effortless willingness to help. She has a beautiful way of turning strangers into friends and groups into something that feels like family. Her spirit shines brightest in shared experiences, where her joy, kindness, and even her lovely singing leave a lasting impression. Caroline is not just a volunteer — she is a presence that makes any environment brighter, lighter, and more connected. Any host fortunate enough to welcome her will quickly understand how special she truly is.

I spent almost two weeks here. I had a really good time there. Yvette always made sure I have time to rest in between and offered me, to take me with her to spend some time in the city center. The dogs are very lovely and even if it can get challenging you get rewarded with lots of kisses and cuddly dogs.
