  • Description

Hi! My name is Romain. I’m 31 years old, originally from the French Alps. I grew up close to nature, surrounded by mountains, land, and animals. My grandparents were farmers — my grandmother cared for dairy cows and my grandfather made cheese — so I’ve always felt connected to simple, grounded ways of living.

I studied electronics and computing and worked as an electronics engineer for six years in Lyon in a company designing connected products. Even though I gained valuable skills, I eventually realised that this career didn’t feel meaningful to me. It fed into a consumerist system that I no longer want to support, and I felt my life starting to go in circles.

Over the last few years, I’ve become very conscious of the ecological crisis and have changed my lifestyle accordingly: I’ve been vegetarian for more than 5 years, I reduce my waste, buy organic and local food, avoid flying, and pay attention to my ecological footprint as much as possible.

At the end of March, I quit my job and decided to create a new life for myself — one closer to nature, with more purpose. I want to work with my hands, cultivate the land, bake bread, meet new people, and improve my English. I aspire to live more simply, free from material excess, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling existence.

I also discovered the world of fermentation over a year ago and fell in love with it. I made many wild fizzy drinks, kombucha, water and milk kefir, apple cidre vinegar, kimchi, lacto-fermented vegetables, koji, and I’m learning sourdough bread. I even made my first soy sauce! I would love to learn cheesemaking and deepen my knowledge in this beautiful ancestral art of preserving food, improving flavour, and supporting health.

Right now, I’m living in a small dairy farm community where I help look after cows, milking, bedding, cooking, feeding the cows, making butter, grounds keeping and do some gardening. I really enjoy community living — sharing, learning, supporting each other, and building something together.
