Natalie stayed with us at the sanctuary one month, and it was a delight having her as part of the team. She is a very competent and reliable volunteer who understood the sanctuary's requirements well and carried out her tasks with a steady, consistent focus. Natalie made sure all the animals under her care were well looked out for, and she was thorough in ensuring their environments were kept clean and safe. She has a solid work ethic, follows directions well, understands instructions readily, and simply gets on with the job at hand. On a personal level, Natalie was great to have around. She has a very easygoing nature and a great sense of humour that we all really enjoyed. She got along well with the rest of the team and integrated into our daily routine with ease. We would highly recommend Natalie to any host looking for a capable and pleasant volunteer.

We had an amazing stay with Carolann on her beautiful farm. The work was somewhat physically demanding on some days but this was great as we felt really accomplished afterwards! We got stuck in driving the tractor, preparing wood stocks for the winter, herding some very cheeky stubborn cows, weeding, harvesting potatoes and even got to open up the beehives! overall a really great experience with many new skills learnt. Our daily chats also brought heaps of laughs and I can't wait to share stories of our week when we get back home, thank you very much Carolann!!

Emily spent just over a month with us at the sanctuary and was an absolute powerhouse. It is rare to find a volunteer so naturally thorough and dedicated to the small details that keep a sanctuary running. During her training period, she took extensive notes and was incredibly conscientious about getting every protocol exactly right. Emily has an impeccable work ethic. She would regularly work extra hours unasked to ensure her assigned tasks were completed to the highest standard, consistently going out of her way to do more than the bare minimum. Beyond the animal care - which she handled with genuine love and attention - she was a huge help in the kitchen. She is a fantastic cook and prepared delicious vegan meals for the team on many nights, which was a massive help to us all. There were many highlights of her stay, but her home-made tacos were a definite stand-out! Emily has a chill, relaxing vibe and is lovely to be around. She handles the sanctuary environment with a steady, capable attitude. She is a huge asset to any host, and we recommend her very highly. We would be lucky to have her back.

Vanessa was great! So willing to help and did a thorough job at whatever was needed. She spoiled us by keeping dishes washed whenever they accumulated. Any future host will be lucky to have her and I recommend her highly. Thank you, Vanessa. We loved having you! We wish you the best!

My week with Jorge and Katja was wonderful and I really enjoyed their company. Their home is beautiful and very peaceful, the garden is full of plants and Jorge though me so much about each one of them. I even made my way in the kitchen - thank you Katja for letting me interfere with your system ;) I was working mostly with Jorge in the garden, which was an absolute pleasure - he is truly the kindest person and has so many interesting stories to tell. I even discovered a new talent of mine, apparently I'm amazing at peeling Sacha inchi, a task that turned into my free time activity :) The work was pleasant and we always tried to avoid the hot sun. One day I also helped in the kitchen, which I enjoyed a lot. I had a beautiful casita just for myself, very comfortable and nicely decorated. And the washing machine had hot water - a first during my trip in South America! I was well taken care of! Overall a great experience, highly recommended!

I had a great time staying with Sophie and the crew at this wee ecovillage. It's a beautiful spot, and not far from town. I was often able to jump in the car to get to town and explore while they ran errands or had things to do, and was also invited along to events and to destinations for nice walks and to the beach. Super nice people, and lots of good conversations. I worked in the house, in the garden, and at the local community garden. Be sure to bring warm clothes as it can get cold once the sun goes down!

We loved our time staying and working on the farm! Frank is an excellent host and is very kind and made sure we were comfortable. He is good at communicating what projects are on the to-do list. The work was pleasurable and definitely hard work. You can't be afraid of getting dirty and working in the heat 4-5 hours a day! We loved being around the horses and taking care of the dogs and cat. We used the surfboards at the local beach and the bikes to go to the gas station and the restaurants. We enjoyed the rustic house and bathroom and the making food in outdoor kitchen from the garden! Taking care of the greenhouse was also pleasurable. The area is very special, we saw sloths, monkeys, and so many birds:) We'd return one day to do another few weeks here.

Yingda was a very good volunteer and a truly special presence in our home and at the Refúgio. He stayed with us for 12 days and integrated beautifully into both the space and the community. He is very respectful, reliable, and consistent — always punctual, committed to the activities, and attentive to the responsibilities. He followed all house guidelines naturally and helped maintain a calm and harmonious environment. Yingda speaks Portuguese well, which made communication easy, and he connected very naturally with everyone. Even though he has a more quiet personality, he is extremely kind, thoughtful, and charismatic — people liked him immediately and often asked about him. One of the highlights of his stay was a presentation he gave about China. He shared cultural curiosities, personal insights, and even introduced a traditional Chinese game, which made the experience engaging and memorable for everyone. He also prepared a Chinese dish for us one day. He was very generous in sharing his knowledge, even helping us with practical tips about China, apps, and daily life there, as we are planning a trip. Overall, Yingda adapted perfectly to the rhythm of the house and contributed with presence, respect, and genuine interest. It was a pleasure to host him, and I can confidently say he would be a great addition to any place he goes. Highly recommended.

I had an amazing time during my Workaway experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt very welcome and comfortable. Daniela and Ray are incredibly kind, friendly and extremely funny people, and they truly made me feel at home. I never felt like I was just working for them, it always felt like I was helping out and being part of the family. There was plenty of free time to explore and do my own things when I was off work, which I really appreciated. The work was sometimes challenging, but I always enjoyed doing different tasks and learning new things. I mainly helped in the garden, and I also got to spend lots of time playing games and going on the trampoline with their amazing daughter, which was a lot of fun. I only stayed for two weeks, but I would have loved to stay much longer, I already miss them!

It was a great pleasure to spend 2 and half week in the cute farm of Annatina, Martin and their daughters. It was an enjoyable and soothing experience. I was welcome warmly what immadiately put me at ease. I had a great time with them and enjoyed their company. The work with Martin was very interesting. I enjoy a lot feeding and taking care of all the sheep, cows and the pony, without forgetting cats and dogs who were so cute.I also had the chance to witness some amazing moments, like lambs being born, which was unforgettable. I learn a lot of interesting things about farm life and animals. I really enjoy spending time in the Kitchen with Annatina, I learn a lot of delicious new meals made with home-made food. She is an amazing cooker. I keep very good memories of this experience on the farm and can only recommand Annatina and Martin as host. Danka vielmol

I have just had a wonderful few days working with Sylvia. At times we worked together and at other times she left me to work alone. Sylvia provides generous serves of delicious food. She is great host with a good sense of humour. My private accommodation was cosy and I had the best sleep in years. The location is out of this world surrounded by rainforested national parks and stunning mountain views.

I had the privilege of volunteering at this alternative education space, and it was an experience I will never forget. The facilities were top-notch, providing an excellent environment for both the students and volunteers. But what really made this experience special were the teachers and students. Everyone was so welcoming and passionate about learning, making the whole atmosphere vibrant and inspiring. One of the highlights of my time there was cooking tacos with the children. It was such a fun and interactive activity, and I loved seeing the kids so excited to try something new. We also had some wonderful moments where I shared stories of my travels, and it was amazing to see the kids so engaged and eager to learn about different cultures. I can’t recommend this Workaway enough. The school is wonderful, the people are fantastic, and Sofia itself is a beautiful city that truly does not disappoint. If you’re looking for a meaningful and enriching experience, this is it!

Ciao <3

It was an absolute joy working at Craig and Lisa's charming little vineyard. The two of them are incredibly warm and welcoming people - being around them felt like being part of their own family. We learned so much about wine, and they shared their knowledge and passion with us wholeheartedly. Honestly, we never wanted to leave. If you ever get the chance to stay with them, take it without hesitation. Hands down the best Workaway experience we've ever had!
