David and Jacqui were amazing hosts for our first Workaway experience! Very friendly and caring, they gave us fairly basic tasks at their house (which were quite enjoyable), a flexible schedule to complete them and a lot of new experiences that we will carry with us our whole life. Being close to the beautiful village of Comares was a great perk, we could buy what we needed, have a cheap coffee/beer or a bocadillo only by a 20 minute walk. The panoramic view from their house is also incredible :) We really liked the space we lived in, having some privacy during the evening and morning was perfect for us! All around, this experience was everything we could ask for and more, we are really grateful for the kindness and the opportunity that was provided to us by David and Jacqui.

I’m looking back to a wonderful 3-week stay. The family is very warm, open and helpful. I felt like part of the family as they included me in activities and showed me around the area. It was very interesting to learn about the self-sustainable lifestyle. How they prepare their own delicious and healthy food and how they care for the animals. The location of the farm is a great place for nature lovers. I stayed in a caravan - my own little space - and loved watching the stars at night from there. The work was varied and never boring. I especially enjoyed working on a building project and taking care of the animals. After work, I enjoyed spending time with the children. We walked the dogs, had fun in the pool or played games. I also enjoyed the movie and game nights after a shared meal in the evening. It was a great experience that I will remember and for which I’m very grateful! For me, it was very special to be surrounded by so many friendly and adorable animals. Hope to see you again!

We stayed with Tuve for about one week in February/March 2026 and got a great little insight into her simpel life on farmstead Nässelbacken. The work was reasonable, we helped a lot with the willow branch harvest for her basketry projects, cleaned up the place after a tough winter and chipped wood for composting. Speaking of compost, Tuve really knows a lot about any kind of nature-related topics, gardening and trees and really loves to share all of these bits of information - she makes a true lecturer!:) We stayed and slept in the bigger room, which is as described not in the main house, but in the barn (100m footway). It was indeed rustic and also served as storage for all sorts of different things, but we managed to get it cozy for our short stay. Tuve had planned out several different tasks for the spring and new little sidequests always showed up during the day. We were always free to choose our tasks how they suited us. In the beginning the farm and the every day life might have seemed a little all over the place to us, but we really got used to the place in a quite short time (especially when Tuves sons joined and spent their time working and living with us). Thanks for all the tips for trips in your area - Fulltofta and Rövarekulan were great! So Tuve, thank you for showing us your way of living in your own peaceful corner in the countryside!:)

When travelling abroad, it can get quite challenging to find a place that truly feels like home, where you actually don’t want to leave. Nonetheless, staying only one week at the campus gave me that familiar and comforting homelike feeling. The Foundation is situated in a remote village of Bihar, near the nepalese border, in the midst of fields, forests and rivers. Hence, during my stay, I could completely immerse into the local rural life, meet the villagers and explore the surroundings. This was a really great and genuine experience, full of many colors - especially since I had the opportunity to celebrate my first ever Holi here ! Regarding the volunteering, I was basically in the company of the youngsters almost daily. So a lot of chatting was involved. Together, we shared life stories, memories and dreams, we learned from one another, danced, laughed, wandered around, and much more. Seeing them open up day by day a bit more to me, gain confidence and express their excitement, was the most magical experience. I won’t forget the joyful faces I met and the friends I made ! Accommodations were good, simple and snug ; food was fresh and delicious. Big up to the mosquito net though^^ All in all, a warmhearted journey of smiles. Chalo chale, see you at campus !

Emma and Ties are a great couple with whom to work. For starters, they planned well in advance, and kept us informed of their plans. Unfortunately, nature and the weather did not stick to plan, and we had unseasonal weather. But that was also not a problem for Emma and Ties – they adapt to changes, and are capable. In addition, they were interested in our work here, enthusiastic, motivated and hard working. Their initiatives and suggestions were really helpful. They are also really good company. We hope that our paths cross again.

I stayed in Morten´s home for 7 weeks and it was a wonderful time. I arrived at the beginning of January where the weather was cold this year and the days were short, but Morten did his best to make me feel home and welcome. The work we did together was very practical but he explained everything in a clear way, so it was easy to do. He has some goats, cats and chickens and he really love his animals. He is a very optimistic and positive person which is nice to be around with. For nothing there were problems, only solutions :D I would highly recommend to spend your time with Morten if you want to be in a beautiful place right next to the sea and in silence with nature.

I spent nearly a month working with this organization. The work is challenging but incredibly important, and I was happy to be part of it. The team lives together in a house, and in four weeks I don’t remember a single tense or unfriendly moment among the group. I struggled with some back and shoulder pain while I was here and couldn’t work as much as I had hoped, and everyone was understanding. The team leaders are inspiring visionaries who have built their organization from the ground up and will do whatever is necessary to support displaced people. Highly recommended to anyone who’s ready for an intense, hands-on experience where they will make friends and learn a great deal.

This was my first workaway and I abosultely loved staying with Massi! He provided a good layout for what to expect task wise, a perfect work rest balance (we enjoyed climbing on our days off!) and made me feel at home. I was able to settle down quickly (especially with out shared love for sandwiches) with harmonious mornings discussing the day's plan, getting the tasks done and then socialising in the evening before separating for our own individual downtime. I will miss the fun had learning Italian and cheffing it up with lots of music!

Dear Nina, James, Lenny and Amy It was a wonderful experience to stay at your place and be part of your reality :) I enjoyed to be present and help around with daily tasks and the kids. What I am most grateful for is the open communication about needs, feelings and boundaries. I felt completely welcomed, accepted and safe. Thank you for trusting me. Hope to see you soon again!

Florence and Thalia spent 5 weeks here with us at our Learning Center. The children absolutely adored both of them. All children were excited to be taught and spend time with both girls. Being bilingual they were a huge asset to our team, with great leadership skills and kind hearts. They were punctual, prepared fun lessons, helped with core subjects and reported daily to their shifts. Super active, curious and respectful of everyone and their living space. Highly recommend these two for other hosts and they are both welcome back here with us anytime. Forever in our hearts.

I spent about one month with Terri and Ryan and their wonderful family in Coolum Beach, including Christmas, New Year’s and even my birthday, and I truly couldn’t have imagined a better first Workaway experience!! From the very first moment I felt incredibly welcome and at home. Terri and Ryan are extremely kind and generous hosts who always tried to make sure I felt comfortable and had everything I needed. I helped with some household tasks and looked after the kids, which honestly was more a joy than “work”. The children are such warm-hearted, open and loving little humans! I absolutely adored spending time with them, playing, running around and giving lots of cuddles. I miss them very much. 🥹 Life in the house could sometimes be a little chaotic with the kids around, but in the best possible way. We had lovely moments together, like sitting outside in the evenings, having barbecues and laughing a lot. I always felt included and appreciated. I’m very grateful for the trust and warmth I experienced during my stay. Coolum Beach is also a beautiful place and I feel very lucky to have spent this time there. Thank you for everything ❤️ I will remember this time very fondly and can highly recommend staying with this wonderful family.

I met Laurine in town with another volunteer. He was very down-to-earth, friendly, and social. He shared with us how long he has been volunteering. We also showed him how much our organisation has achieved in such a short period of time. After showing him around, his family kindly donated to support the construction of our fence. He was a very kind and supportive person. 😊

Antonia, Marita and Željko were my first ever Croatians to Workaway at Manakau Hideaway. And I hope they won’t be the last! They were terrific! After a bit of a hiccough when I slightly overcooked my Workawayer bookings, meaning there were 7 all at once. But my mistake didn’t stop the 3 of them melding really well with the other 4 and together they did so much work in some neglected areas of the orchard and transformed it. They also enjoyed the down times like coffee at the café next door, and the quiz nights at a local pub. Plus they helped out a neighbour who needed assistance with his blueberries. I can thoroughly recommend them to other hosts. You won’t be disappointed.

Yvonne and Peter stayed with us in February/March. They contributed positively and completely independently to all aspects of daily life. Their thoughtful, independent and productive nature meant that I could rely on them from day one. Unfortunately, the weather was predominantly cold and wintry, but I am glad that they still have fond memories of their stay. During this period, there was a lot of tidying up to do, and Peter contributed with great commitment and empathy. He put the finishing touches to the new bathroom. His craftsmanship is very reliable. Yvonne took care of drying fruit and helped out in the garden, shop and household. She was a great help. We had some very fruitful conversations. I very much hope that El Hierro will be their destination again. They will be very welcome back.

Our stay at Atong Baol has been one of the best experiences of our lives. Atong Baol is a small place of peace among plants, trees and a lot of learning. We started volunteering with the idea of being there for 10 days and in the end, we stayed for almost 2 months. We have learned countless things, we have been surprised, we have gotten dirty, we have understood the natural cycles of things and we have put ourselves in new situations that have made us develop a much more critical and responsible way of thinking. Jackie and Julia made our stay an unforgettable experience this months. They taught us everything they knew, they opened the doors of their project and their home to us, and is so inspiring see their care about the planet which is fundamental and essential. We really loved not only the experience, but also meeting people like you girls, thank you very much. It has been an experience that we will keep in the best of our memories. Long live permaculture! SALAMAT. David and Maria (clear winners of the code names).

When we think back to Kitty and Cleo, it immediately brings a big smile to our faces. They are two lovely girls who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves, and they work very carefully and thoroughly. They helped us a great deal and were always willing to go the extra mile. Besides being hardworking, they are also very social, friendly, and helpful. It was truly a pleasure having them around; they brought a great energy and quickly became part of the atmosphere here. We had a wonderful time with them and it was a pity that they could only stay for two weeks. Kitty and Cleo are always more than welcome to come back! 😊

Margreet is a wealth of knowledge, and a shark at shuffle board and monopoly deal. I sent a last minute request, and, despite terrible weather during the first few days, Margreet was was very accommodating. She’s also accommodating of different dietary needs and skill levels. And while the schedule and expectations are very clear, she leaves a lot of freedom for creativity and learning in each task; for example mistakenly picking the wrong veggies from the garden for salad. She’s a wizard at reusing and repurposing. Both with materials and with food too. You’ll probably eat things you’ve never heard of, but it’s really cool to see them go from the garden to the table. The goal is no waste, and you’ll be amazed to see how things transform, and then how the leftovers transform again. Maybe not ideal if you have things to do in the city, but if you’re looking for peace, a healthy lifestyle, and to learn, it’s a good place.

Georgina was a great Workaway and helped us a lot on one of our recent English language trips. She was really friendly with all our guests, helped with anything when asked and always remained positive and energetic. I highly recommend Georgina to anyone looking for a smart, hard working and friendly helper and welcome her back anytime in the future. Thanks again!
