    Description

I am an illustrator and fibre artist living on a 2.5 acre "farm" property in West lake, Prince Edward County, Ontario. The property is situated a 5 minute drive to Sandbanks Provincial park in West Lake, where there are multiple trails and world class light sand beaches!. A 15 minute drive to Wellington or Picton (both charming towns that have shopping and restaurants). My property has a 2 bedroom brick house and a smaller 1 bedroom coachhouse that I use for an art studio. There is a barn, 2 firepits and a small forest walk.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I’m an illustrator, graphic recorder, and fibre artist living in a beautiful rural area with a surprisingly vibrant arts community. My professional work focuses on transforming complex conversations and ideas into engaging visual stories, and my personal studio practice includes felt-making and rug hooking.

I love hosting people who are curious, creative, and open to both learning and sharing. As a host, I offer a warm, collaborative home environment where creativity and conversation are part of everyday life. I’m happy to share aspects of my art practice — from illustration and visual storytelling to hands-on fiber techniques — and I enjoy informal skill-sharing sessions in the studio. If you’re interested in creative work, you’ll have the opportunity to observe, ask questions about freelance life, and even experiment with materials. I especially welcome guests who bring their own creative practices or skills, as I deeply value mutual inspiration. Cultural exchange is important to me.

I can provide meals, and I would love for cooking to be something we share. I’m very interested in expanding my culinary repertoire and would enjoy learning recipes from your culture or family traditions. In return, I’ll share some of my own favourite dishes and local ingredients. I see shared meals as one of the most meaningful ways to exchange culture, stories, and perspectives. In terms of daily life, I welcome help with garden work, seasonal outdoor projects, and general property upkeep.

This exchange would suit someone who enjoys being outside as well as engaging in creative or community-oriented experiences. Beyond the home, there’s plenty to explore. I’m an avid hiker and would love to introduce you to some of my favourite local trails. There’s a bicycle, SUP board, and kayak available for use. I can also connect you to local beekeeping through close contacts. The area has a lively arts and cultural scene, with events at Basecamp 31 and dances at the Hayloft Dance Hall, plus numerous wineries and breweries nearby (one is right next door). There are clubs, gatherings, and community events throughout the year.

Overall, I hope to host someone who is open-minded, communicative, and interested in genuine exchange — someone who sees this not just as a place to stay, but as a shared creative and cultural experience.

I am looking for someone who is able to do 2 main types of activities. #1. Garden work and landscaping/groundskeeping for a relatively small (non-commercial) home garden : This will entail digging garden beds, preparing soil, planting, watering and weeding. I am interested in eco-friendly gardening practices and creating a pollinator field to help combat invasive species. There will be yard clean up, tree trimming and other yard work. and #2. Cleaning/Moving: I am embarking on a massive barn clean up which will mean removing a lot of junk, moving items (some large) and cleaning. There may be house cleaning required as well. At times I will be working with you on these tasks.
