    Description

Hello, my name is Jailani. My parents and I run a family farm in Kampung Air Gayam. Our village used to be home to many households, but its remote location and lack of electricity and internet meant that people gradually left, leaving it deserted.

Our aim is to breathe new life into this village. We want people to rediscover this coastal hamlet, as well as its produce, such as coconuts, cloves and mangoes. We hope you can grow alongside our humble village.

We hope you’ll become part of our family – helping to clear the farmland, fishing in the sea, and, if possible, sharing the story of our village with the world.

Halo, perkenalkan nama saya Jailani.

You'll learn about a distant and lonely world. Imagine Bali, but without cafes, hotels, nightclubs, streets, traffic lights, or temples. Just coconut trees, white sand, rocks, waves, and you. That's where you'll get lost in our village.

I hope our new family will help us on the farm. Generally speaking, they can help with the farmland and keep it tidy.

In addition, we usually forage for our own food. So we can go fishing together for octopus and fish, and gather shellfish from the sea. We also pick vegetables and fruit, and harvest cloves on the family plantation.

If you’re a writer, I hope you’ll find inspiration to write about this village. If you’re active on social media, you can contribute in this way too.

You’ll be treated like family. You’ll live with us in our home. You’ll eat what we eat and laugh at what we laugh at.

Our home is a simple stilt house. It’s more like a cabin than a house. To bathe, we usually bathe in the river that flows through our garden. We don’t have a toilet. When we need to relieve ourselves, we dig a hole in the earth or sand, and cover it up again when we’re finished.

We know this way of life is a far cry from the conveniences of the modern world. But if you enjoy adventure and living in harmony with the wilderness, the sea and the forest, we’re certain this will be an experience that changes the way you view humanity and the world.

We eat three times a day. Our meals vary, ranging from rice, sago, cassava and sweet potatoes. We also frequently prepare seafood. We hope you’ll cook with us. If you prepare a dish from your own culture, we’d be grateful to try it.

As mentioned, it’s important to remember that we have no access to electricity or the internet.

For lighting at night, we use oil lamps made from glass bottles. The light is a soft, golden yellow. We generally like it; we hope you will too.
In the evenings, we sometimes lie on the beach gazing at the star-filled sky. We hope you’ll enjoy it too.

Internet access is a 20-minute walk from our farm. So whilst at home and on the farm, we’ll be offline.

rumah kami rumah panggung sederhana.

Kami makan tiga kali sehari.

Please note that we are looking for a family who wishes to immerse themselves in our way of life. We want to share the story of our simple village so that it is not lost to the passage of time. We are the last family remaining in Air Gaya Village, and we truly love this place. We hope you will feel the same way.

As you may know, life here is very hard. Facilities are extremely limited. Government support has never reached us. Despite all this, life in our village is very simple.

We hope you will join us in this life of limited means, without feeling the need to judge our way of life.

We hope to see you soon!!

    Semoga kita berjumpa segera!!
