Hello and welcome. We are two individuals on the same path toward a self sustainable life style. This life style includes a living home construction project known as an EARTHSHIP. This spring and summer this CUSTOM EARTHSHIP is offering unique workshops which include, tire pounding ... timber framing ... bond beams ... can walls ... unique and creative bottle walls ... cob work ... plumbing and electrical installations etc. When you contact us we can let you know what stage of construction we are at so you will have some idea of what to expect when you arrive.
Construction experience is an asset but not always necessary as we can all learn and share from doing. I maybe the teacher but as a teacher I know that I also learn many things from anyone willing to learn and share.
NOTES...location is about a ten minute journey to the nearest city Castlegar, and once here on the land you will experience a genuine mountain country side experience.
Upon arrival during the summer months there are many choices for tent camp set up, as well one small camper that can accommodate two people. As well there is a rustic but very user friendly outhouse on site.
Thanks for dropping by and please if you have any questions drop in and ask away.
SPECIAL NOTE: The 2019 construction season has come the end. This years project season proved to be a very successful one with the help of some very enthusiastic guest volunteers. It appears that this coming year ahead will be an exciting one as we are very close to the completion of the Earthship. Once the month of April of 2020 arrives we will be opening up our project once again to new volunteers and possibly the final year of construction. The fun stuff that we will need help with next year lay within the realms of plumbing and electrical, installation of the metal roof, glass bottle creations as well as the finishing cob applications. Thank-you so much to the many many enthusiastic help that we have received thus far.
Help with Eco project
Benefits from cultural exchange are many depending upon the workings of this project and nearby communities.
As land caretakers and citizens of this earth we have picked this specific project as a way to not only benefit ourselves but also benefit any volunteer guests that make the choice to join us on our journey.
We are enthusiastic in the sharing of our knowledge and our land to like minded individuals who feel comfortable within their choice to be here as well as being independent during their off time while here. As hosts it takes a great deal of time and energy to plan and present to you, we hope, an unforgettable experience while here. With this being said it is important to communicate and respect one another's space during the time spent with us.
The best key to learning, we believe, is the sharing of knowledge and life experiences. So you will find, that during your time here, you will have this freedom while sitting around a nightly camp fire.
This year workshops will include the final stages of timber framing techniques presented by myself a seasoned timber framer of 25 years, as well as a small amount of tire pounding, bottle cutting, bottle wall creations etc. Other mini work shops will also include can wall construction, bond beam and roof construction, cob production and applications. If you are intrigued and decide to join this project I can certainly share more details.
There is a small garden project offered for those greens thumbs out there as well. Soil preparation and transport with possible seed planting. Just depends upon the time of the growing season one arrives.
Nature hikes, beach combing at the many rivers and lakes that surround us are some of the experiences you can investigate while here.
Cheers Kurt & P.J.
