Description
I need a couple of workawayers to take responsibility for my vegetable gardens! It is a good job for a couple, or two friends since we won't have time to socialize or hang out much with the workawayers during growing and harvest season. Max 4 workawayers.
I am a passionate Icelandic farmgirl running a dairy farm in Norway for the past two decades with my Norwegian husband and our two children, who are now young adults (18 and 26). My husband Arve is a firefighter and hooftrimmer and therefore sometimes not at home. He is easy going and very polite, and you can always have a good chat with him. The household is always busy and lively. We talk, work and laugh alot.
I like metal music and really dark poetry and fairytales. I love food and I would like to learn to prepare (and eat!) food from other countries. I am also the typical middle aged woman who loves her second hand shopping, spinning my own wool, and producing my own meat.
To explain what we do: We are a small farm with around 25 dairy cows, 50 cattle, a few lambs in the summer, hens and cats. We are in the early stages of developing the farm to include a hobby bakery (my dream for several years), specialising in traditional Icelandic bread and cakes, a vegetable garden, and a small animal farm zoo.
We have a workshop with a variety of tools needed for mecanic and woodwork.
As you can see, we always have many projects and possibilities for many more :)Types of help and learning opportunities

A workawayer who is curious and willing to learn will gain lots of knowledge!Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Help
The projects are diverse and range from outside help in the vegetable garden, light maintenance of the farm like outside painting, fences, small carpentry jobs, and organising equipment in the garage. Help with the few hobby lambs and hens is also welcome.
Main task and focus for workawayers spring/summer 2025 will be carrying on with making and keeping the vegetable garden and building a duckhouse/shelter. As you see, we always have more ideas than hands! We appreciate creativity and a hands-on mentality. You`re more than welcome to contribute with your own ideas on how to make this place even more beautiful!
Flexibility is important, and experience with housekeeping, as we need help to keep the house tidy in the busy summer season. You don`t need to have any special skills to work here, but you should be experienced or at least very interested in gardening and not afraid to get your hands dirty and be able to work physically.
We only host people 26 years and older who are able to work independently. We can also host a couple or two friends. You have to be able to make desicions and find solutions to simple daily challenges on your own.
The houshold can for some seem chaotic and stressful, and it would be very good if you are a kind of person who is able to feel comfortable with such situations. I call it happy chaos :)
Workawayers will not be asked to help in my business (the dairy farm).Languages spoken

A tiny house: a cozy (footage 10 m2) two story traditional Norwegian «stabbur» which has been renovated to have one bedroom on main floor and one bedroom above. You will have a bed and clean sheets. The staircase is outside and the bathroom (toilet/shower) is in the bakery building a few mtrs away. You will be welcome to join family meals at all times and cook and bake as you like. You have to eat with us at least once a day so we can meet at the kitchen table to talk about what you do during the day, make plans etc. From April-September the routine is completely unpredictable, as it depends on the weather and other factors (usually the cows being mischievous) but we eat 3 or more meals a day and we love snacking ;)
You are welcome to use the 2nd floor in the house and we expect all to eat together with us in the kitchen. Dinner is important. Ground floor is private. What else ...
I expect to have at least one video call with you before you arrive at the farm.
Our farm is located in a walking distance (15 min) to the village center with a gas station, cafe, grocery store, hair saloon, retirement home, healthcare facility, daycare, school, municipality offices, library, and a bus station. There is a bus every hour to Steinkjer, in the south, and Namsos, in the north.( the schedule is different on the weekend) In the vicinity of the farm there are many beautiful oppertunities to hike, fish and swim for nature lovers. Sometimes you can also drive to the city with me or my husband.A little more information

I spent one month at Gudne's place and it was intense, very interesting with a lot of differents tasks and things to do. I baked and cooked a lot, helped with Gudne's Icelandic (and a little bit french too now 😉) bakery, took care of some chores around the house and outside. If you love food, this is the right… read more
