Description

Hello! I live in an amazing part of France with two dogs in a big countryside french farmhouse. My daughters are away studying and my son only here on occasional weekends.

I am very interested in handyman/handywoman or anyone that likes gardening, knowledge of pool fonctionment. I would like independent, self starting people with experience in life!

I have been living in this house in this part of the south west France for many years, gradually renovating and restoring as I can. I do many things, and have also completed a similar project in restoring an entire house close to Bordeaux.

I live with Suki , a 5 year old beautiful German shepherd cross and Aslan her son , 1 year old and adorable and they both need love, attention and walks!

I am working on improving my main house as it is so big and overwhelming to get this done all by myself! Any help with this will be very much appreciated. I also have many projects in the garden such as pruning, felling trees, burning off areas, creating outside spaces, outdoor living. I am experienced in building, electricity, plumbing, architectural plans so can offer lots of things to learn.
It is a 15 century building with old stone walls, fireplaces, lots of potential and charm so I am looking for motivated and dynamic people that can try their hand at any type of creative DIY tasks, organising, tidying, cooking, gardening etc

I prefer longer stay workawayers to build better relationships so ask a minimum 2 week stay but in summer sometimes it works out for shorter stays.

Accommodation

In a 15th century building, 60cm thick stone walls, fireplace and wood burning stove to heat in winter. You will have a private room and a shared bathroom. We are working on the main house and renovating the bathroom and main living areas but the house is big and plenty of space to get away from the working area when needed!

Food included during your stay.
, I follow a healthy low carb diet, mostly vegetables bought from farmers' markets when possible and avoid processed foods. I do also eat meat. ;-) Anyone liking cooking is welcome as well! I provide you with food for 3 meals per day on your working days or when at the house. When we go on outings, visiting etc on the weekends which are not obligaratory, you should cover these costs yourself.

Saint Emilion is 15 kilometers away, a Unesco classed village. There is a bicycle path that goes for 100's of kms from just down the road, traversing vineyards and fields, and going all the way to the sea. Underground caves and tunnels in the vicinity. Note that we are in a rural area, closest bus stop 7 kms away.....

We left our heart in Entre-deux-Mers and Bordeaux. Working inside and outside the house full of energy, preparing gites for new guests to come, and keeping Suki, a lovely puppy, busy and happy while Simone and Joren working hard everyday in downtown, we have benefited from the flexibility of working hours, as well as leisurely time sharing with … read more each other at night and weekends. Simone was hospitable, very knowledgeable and always thoughtful of our and the guests' needs. In our 16 days' stay, every day was so much fun, so much to learn and so treasurable.

Our job basically involve around taking care of the site, and Simone made daily indications clear. We had learnt how to clean the gites from ceiling to floor, clean the swimming pool, blow the leaves, dry the sheets, recycle trashes, make woodfires... And most importantly, keep Suki accompany! Suki was a 11-month-old German Shepherd/Rottweiler who loves to play, eat, sleep and jump. Taking her for a walk and run in the vineyard was one of our favorite moments in the afternoon. It was great that we were able to finish each work with our own pace, as we also work remote with computer and strain our brain everyday, shifting between mental and physical works had become an important and useful way to balance life. Often, working felt rather like a meditation or relaxation.

We also learnt a lot in the kitchen because Simone had a bunch of useful machines like heated soup blender and air fryers! Cooking and dining together were enjoyable. We had the opportunity to exchange cultures and ideas together, because Simone and Joren were both full of stories. Thanks to Simone, we learnt more about France, its wine, its historical buildings, its culture, its people...(Knowing that I'm improving my French, she also nicely speaks French with me!) We were even so lucky to join a housewarming party of a Simone's friend, which was a real beautiful evening. We were also nicely invited by them to visit the morning market in Libourne, the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, the flea market in Rauzan, and the downtown of Bordeaux. Simone even lent her car to us so we could drive around and enjoy some trips.

As regards living condition, we lived in a historical building made by stone, known to be cool in summer and warm in winter. We were given a big heated room of our own, a big bed, a nice desk and chair to work. Bathroom and toilets were shared but easily accessible. Kitchen was huge and convenient, with a fridge always stocked with fresh and delicious food. In front of the house, there was a nice grassland to play with Suki. Wifi was generally steady and Simone nicely provided us a hairdryer, an anti-mosquito incent and some woods to make our own fire. We could not ask for more.

It was hard to say good bye, but we look forward to coming back! Thank you so much for everything, Simone. We wish you finish your project in Bordeaux successfully, and step by step toward your dream of life when we meet again! :)
