    Description

I have lived in Whitehorse for almost 12 years and moved here from the southern USA. The winters are tough but the summers make up for the long cold months. I live in a suburban neighbourhood, with walking trails, a golf course, climbing gym and public transit right outside my door.
I work full-time as a Disability Accommodation Consultant and groom dogs part-time. I have a neuro-divergent teenager and a small, eclectic, tight knit friend group. We enjoy cooking, crafting, camping, paddling, game nights, hiking, theatre, and traveling. I love planning a good theme party. I recently threw a Mardi Gras Murder Mystery birthday party, a Leg Day celebration for the 1 year anniversary of a friend’s first step on his prosthetic, and a neighbourhood Halloween/World Series watch party.
I also enjoy planning events and fundraisers for local NGOs. I’ve recently planned a winter gala fundraiser, cast party and sweet shop fundraiser for Yukon Theatre for Young People. This summer I will be planning a weekend rehearsal intensive and travel company for the senior production of Come From Away, and a 24 hour Musical campout for the same organization.

I am available for practicing conversational and workplace English. With my experience in Human Resources, I can provide advice and support related to the Canadian and Territorial labour market, as well as non-citizen employment . My work experience has allowed me to build strong relationships with leaders in First Nation Government, the public and private sectors, and various immigrant communities. I can also provide advice on accessing education and services in Yukon.
Though I’m not an athlete, I have close connections to various sports organizations. I volunteer and perform in the local theatre community and have friends in most rural communities.
My family is part of the LGBTQ+ and disability communities and our home is safe place for all respectful humans. If you come with an open mind and an open heart, I am happy to answer questions without judgement, direct you to resources, and connect you with the community.
I am an atheist and we are not a religious household. However, I have several friends who are religious and I am happy to connect you. We love animals and have 2 small dogs.

    Help

I am looking for help around the house and clearing, designing and creating a useable yard space. I am also interested in help upgrading and revamping my travel trailer.
I am open to doing the tasks together, separately or a hybrid.

    Accommodation

I have a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite on the lower level of my home. I typically rent this space to artists or students in trade. I’ve hosted tattoo artists in trade for ink, vet tech students in trade for volunteer hours at the local shelter, teachers in exchange for tutoring, and travelers in trade for car repairs. We’ve become friends with many of them and have lots of reference.
The space is fully furnished and includes a small kitchenette. The suite is mostly private. There is shared laundry that I will need to walk through the living room to access.

I will provide self-serve items for most day-time meals and snacks. The options are usually simple and versatile.
Dinner will typically be provided family style. I enjoy trying new cuisines and recipes as well as elevating healthy food on a budget. I am reasonably flexible to meet your restrictions, preferences, or availability. Feeding people is one of my love languages and I have recently learned many gluten free recipes.

There is a bus stop practically steps from the door and I drive downtown daily. There are lovely hikes, trails, a climbing and gymnastics gym, and a golf course in walking distance. The area is growing rapidly with restaurants, shops, indoor golf, a fitness centre and coffee shop coming soon.
I would love to learn more about cooking, baking, carpentry, home repairs, car maintenance, or similar topics.
Like the posting says, we’re an easy going family. We do have a few rules-
There is no tobacco smoking allowed in or near the house..Responsible consumption of legal substances is permitted, vapes and weed outside. No strong perfumes or home fragrances please. When we’re home, it’s pretty relaxed and quiet. We ask our guests to keep noise at a respectful level for both our family and our neighbours.

We have fairly reliable and fast internet as well as cell/data connectivity. However, this is a family neighbourhood and the house is along a popular road and walking path. There is ongoing construction noise in addition to the everyday sounds of a family friendly community. While there are some mitigations that may help background noise, predictable silence is not possible.

    Profile photo of Cecilia

    Cecilia (8 months)

Cecilia is named after the song that was stuck in my head when I adopted her on an impulse. I have exclaimed “Oh Cecilia!” 1000 times since. CiCi is best described as a gremlin chaos potato. She fears nothing, her best friend is an 80lb boxer/pit mix, and she forces you to love her, stinky farts and all.

    Profile photo of Stevie Nicks

    Stevie Nicks (13 years)

Stevie is a rescued poodle who is attached to me like Velcro. She takes a while to review your application for her love, so when she accepts you, it can make you feel like you’ve won a contest. Stevie is the cranky grandma of the house and keeps us all in line.
