    Description

Live and help in a spectacular peaceful location in return for welcoming accommodation and exchange of language learning.

Teenager, small old dog, and mum, live on Achill Island, County Mayo. We would like to host some one comfortable with a dog. We enjoy learning languages and are happy to teach ours.

We are near the beach and local bus route, in a prime location for discovering nature, historic and cultural areas, and the Wild Atlantic Way.

A competent driver with a driving licence, or own transportation, would be extremely advantageous here but is not essential. TFIanseo bus can transport to and from the house for a small fee.

We would like help with household chores, gardening, and dog minding.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We love Irish Trad music and play Irish music at home at random times. We don't have a television or WiFi. We would encourage you to use one of your free days to travel and explore the area. We are a busy family and enjoy private time together but we will include you in outings and activities whenever possible and can give you lifts when we travel to towns.

We live on Achill Island which has spectacular world-famous beaches, historic sites, mountains, lakes, and rich cultural heritage and festivals.

Surfing, kayaking, kite-surfing, swimming, snorkeling, golf, yoga, horse-riding, hiking, biking, traditional Irish music sessions, and many other activities are possible here. We are pescatarian/vegetarian and enjoy learning and teaching languages (e.g., Irish).

We live in a rural area but have access to almost everything we need here. We live in a small village with a pristine beach, and nearby there is a café/pub, food truck(s), and beach saunas.

    Help

We would like to share our languages and Irish music and local culture with our Workawayer.

We live a simple Island life and would share our activities of daily living, which include house-keeping, cooking (vegetarian) meals, spending time outdoors together, going to the spring for water, planting herbs, some gardening and walking our dog. We play music together and enjoy board games.

We can offer a bicycle to bike around the Island and on the Green Way. We enjoy going to traditional Irish music sessions (beginners welcome!) most weeks and to festivals in nearby towns on the weekend.

We speak English and some Irish at home. We are interested in learning languages. We love music. It is like another language to us!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Private bedroom with use of shared bathroom; non-smoker/non-vaper. We do not have meat in our home with the exception of fish, and prefer pescatarian or vegetarian/vegan cooking. The use of a vehicle or bike to get around is recommended but not essential as there are local buses available (to Castlebar, Westport etc.,).
