Description
Help Wanted: Help with gardening and painting and decorating for a Creative Retreat in Southwest France
Dates: Last week of Mid-September onowards | Duration: 2–4 weeks
For the past 14 years, we’ve been welcoming guests from around the world to our home in the beautiful French countryside, where we host residential creative workshops in a relaxed and inspiring setting. This autumn we’re also supporting two small, non-profit music events, created to give talented young musicians the opportunity to perform and share their work.
We’re looking for one or two friendly, enthusiastic helpers to join us for 2–4 weeks, ideally with some previous gardening experience but also with painting and decorating experience. Your main focus will be helping us care for our extensive gardens clearing, weeding, pruning and generally getting the outdoor spaces looking their best for our events and workshops and the winter months ahead, but also renovating and paiting the interior spaces where necessary. You’ll need to enjoy working indoors and outdoors, including when the weather isn’t perfect, and be comfortable getting stuck into fairly physical manual labour when necessary..
What we offer: You’ll have comfortable, shared catering accommodation here at the venue, with the occasional meal provided, as well as €12 per hour for approximately 15–20 hours of work each week. This should leave you plenty of free time to explore the surrounding countryside, work on your own projects, or simply enjoy being here.
Who we’re looking for: We’d particularly like to hear from people who are friendly, practical and flexible, and who are happy to become part of a small and welcoming household while they’re here. We ask for a minimum stay of two weeks, although we’d be very happy to welcome someone who can stay for three or four. In return, we hope this offers a rather lovely combination: useful, hands-on work, plenty of independence and the chance to spend some time in a lively, creative environment in a beautiful part of rural France.
If this sounds like your sort of thing, we’d love to hear from you. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Our gardens were planted by us and are now full of rare and unusual plants. We are situated in the very heart of the Dordogne with many historic towns and villages with their beautiful and lively markets, music and traditions. Our closest village, Verteillac - about a 15 min walk from us - is the liveliest in the area with several cafes, a boulangerie, post office and general store. Driving license and own car recommended if you want to get to know the area as there is no public transport. Bicycles available.
