Hi! My name is Vicki, I am a single mum living in Carrigtwohill, in East Cork, Ireland.
I am looking for someone to house and cat-sit for us while we are away on holiday this summer for a couple of weeks.
We are lucky to live about 25 minutes from Cork city, and it is easily accessible by both bus and train. Midleton is also very close - a bustling small market town with a weekly farmers market as well as the historic Distillery. Cobh - a pretty town overlooking Cork Harbour - is a short distance away; the Titanic Museum and the Heritage Centre are both well worth visiting.
If you have any questions please give me a shout!

Cork is a stunning city with a lot to offer culturally and historically. Midleton is also very close by and is great for a night out. Fota Wildlife Park, and Fota Gardens and Arboretum are just across the road from us too :).

Sheldon came to us in October until Christmas, and within days had settled into our routine with a good grasp of what I needed help with. He is so kind and willing to help, and very quickly became one of the family. He was quick to find ways to help that I didn’t even expect, including helping me paint part of the house and re-plumbing the washing… read more machine!
Sheldon takes the initiative and just gets on with what needs doing, is a great cook (Tuesday nights aren’t the same without you!) and just slots in where you need him.
I also have to say I found Sheldon to be an excellent housemate. He is tidy, friendly, polite and always willing to chat - and sometimes an adult conversation is what you need when you live with kids!! I was slightly apprehensive as he was our first male workaway, but any worries were laid to rest quickly.
We were so happy you came to stay Sheldon; next time you’re in Ireland please come and visit, you’re always welcome!

This was my second workaway, and I stayed for 10 weeks at the end of this year. It was a lovely time in Cork with Vicki and the kids! Within days I felt like I had known them for years, and they all made me feel like I was part of the family.
Everything that she mentioned beforehand was exactly as advertised, exceeding what I was expecting. Most… read more of the work is helping around the house with typical tasks in the evening, usually cleaning, supervising children, and occasionally cooking. The routine gave me plenty of time in the day to explore, and the kids were amazing when you were with them. The location was great too, giving the feeling of a city, but also what rural Ireland has to offer. I saw everything in this area of Ireland.
Vicki is the busiest and hardest working mother you can meet. She’s super accommodating and ensures you enjoy your time when staying with them. She was always offering rides or making sure I had access to the public transport network. She is also a great cook and gave me plenty of meal ideas to bring back to Canada, which I think was the highlight of my time there. She is unbelievably easygoing and truly flexible, ensuring that I could make some pre-arranged commitments as well. I was very lucky!
I would definitely recommend this experienced workaway host, especially if you have younger siblings or experience with children!
Thanks again for everything!

This was my first workaway I’ve ever been to and it was certainly an intelligent decision on my part. I would definitely recommend going to this workaway!! I originally planned to stay here for 3 weeks and ended up loving her family and Cork Ireland so much that I stayed for 7 weeks. Cork has lots of tourist… read more attractions and is a beautiful quaint little city that I miss dearly. Cork also has a bus station that connects you to many other areas of ireland (which is great for sightseeing) Vicki is an amazing person and host, who is kind generous and compassionate. Her kids are creative, energetic, funny and witty. They make you feel comfortable and right at home. Vicki is very considerate always making sure that I was enjoying myself and recommending places to go. Vicki doesn’t ask too much out of you either, she gives you plenty of time for sightseeing or time to yourself. Mostly the work includes taking care of the children a couple nights a week, and helping clean up. I Highly recommend this workaway!

I had 5 weeks with this family and what a lovely time I had:blue_heart: Vicki and Will were waiting for me at the airport - complete with a sign with my name. Immediately I felt like a friend who had come to stay and join their family life!
Vicki is very busy with 3 young children who are involved in lots of groups and activities plus her own… read more studies. My role really was to see where I could help her, in day to day tasks that helped familylife, run smoothly. This including some babysitting but Vicki is so organised, you know well in advance. I have a passion for all children so I loved getting to spend time with Will, Jacob and Milly:green_heart:
There was lots of time for exploring a beautiful part of Ireland:green_heart: Vicky was so obliging and generous with her time when coordinating rides, she's a great ambassador of her country and had a genuine interest that I saw as much as possible during my time with her. Carrigtwohill is ideal for exploring as the trains and buses are very frequent and there are so many pretty places to see!
I feel so lucky to have spent time in a country that 'stole my :green_heart:' and too have gained a beautiful friend along the way:green_heart:

Elyse is one of the loveliest, friendliest and fun-est people I’ve ever come across. We were lucky enough to just click and she fit into our family like she’d always been here. Pizza and wine night was hilarious (and a bit blurry :joy:) and I wish you’d come back to visit - but maybe it’ll be our turn to come to you next. I feel I’m lucky enough… read more to have made a friend through this particular workaway experience. Wishing you the absolute best adventures Elyse :kissing_heart:

My stay with Vicki was a first time work away dream come true. It was an absolute honour to be a part of Vicki’s family for the ten days I was there, as that it how they made me feel, part of the family. Will, Jacob, and Millie are three of the sweetest children you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. And Vicki, being the gem that she is, will… read more go out of her way to ensure you have an enjoyable time. Consider yourself lucky if you ever get the chance to share in the love and laughter that fills this home. XOXO Elyse
