Description
*** We are looking for someone who can join us as soon as possible, ideally for at least three months. A driving licence is essential. ***
Hi! I’m Michela and I live in the centre of Trieste with my two sons, Alberto, 13, and Edoardo, 10.
We are a warm, active and internationally minded family. We lived abroad for several years and English has always been an important part of our family life. Alberto and Edoardo are lively, independent and curious. They enjoy sport, music, creative activities and spending time outdoors.
We would love to welcome a friendly, reliable and flexible young adult who would enjoy becoming part of our everyday life — a little like an older sister or brother to the boys. We are especially interested in someone who speaks fluent English and will use it naturally with them.
Our weeks are busy with school, sport, music and work, but we also enjoy cooking, travelling, skiing, walking, spending time by the sea and relaxing at home. The boys’ grandparents live nearby and are part of our family routine.
You will have plenty of personal time to explore Trieste, study Italian, practise sport or travel around this beautiful part of Europe. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Trieste is a fascinating seaside city with a unique mixture of Italian, Central European and Balkan cultures. It is surrounded by the sea, the Karst hills and beautiful natural areas, making it a great place for swimming, sailing, running, cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities.
Slovenia is just across the border, while Croatia and Austria are also easy to reach. Venice is approximately two hours away by train, and the train and bus stations are within walking distance of our home.
You will have time to explore the city, study Italian, practise sport and travel. We will be happy to help you discover the area, understand Italian culture and feel at home in Trieste. In return, we hope you will share your language, culture, interests and favourite recipes with us. -

Help
We are looking for someone who would genuinely enjoy spending time with two boys aged 13 and 10 and becoming part of our family routine.
The main help involves accompanying or driving the boys to and from school or their afternoon activities, spending time with them and helping us keep the week organised. For this reason, a valid driving licence and confidence driving are essential.
We would also appreciate help with preparing simple family meals and light everyday household tasks, such as loading or emptying the dishwasher, setting and clearing the table, folding laundry and keeping shared spaces tidy. This is not a cleaning position and we do not expect heavy housework.
We would love you to speak English naturally with the boys and occasionally help them with homework, creative activities or games. They are no longer small children, so we are looking for someone who can build a friendly and respectful relationship with them — more like an older sister or brother than a traditional babysitter.
The schedule will be agreed together each week, depending on school and activities. It will generally involve some afternoons and early evenings, with occasional morning help or evening babysitting. We will always respect Workaway’s limit of a maximum of 20-25 hours over five days. -

Accommodation
You will have your own single bedroom with a window overlooking the city and the surrounding hills, as well as a private bathroom with a shower. Towels, a hairdryer and Wi-Fi are provided.
We live in a spacious, bright apartment in the centre of Trieste, within easy walking distance of the seafront, shops, cafés, buses and the train station.
We usually eat simple, healthy, homemade food. I enjoy cooking and baking, and I would be happy to share our Italian family meals with you — and to learn some of your favourite dishes too. -
What else ...
Trieste offers a wonderful combination of sea, culture and outdoor life. In your free time you can enjoy swimming, sailing, SUP, hiking on the Karst, climbing, cycling, cafés, theatres, concerts and thermal spas in nearby Slovenia.
The city has good train and bus connections, and Venice, Ljubljana, Croatia and Austria are all suitable for day trips or weekends away.
We are looking for someone independent, responsible and genuinely interested in family life and cultural exchange. You should be comfortable living with children, keeping your own space tidy and adapting to a busy family schedule.
A valid driving licence and confidence driving in Italy are essential. Non-smokers only. -
