Description
This summer we will have a room in our home in the City of Vancouver for one person, or two travelling together, who can help with household tasks: minor household repairs, painting a room, repairing or replacing fixtures, deep cleaning, etc. Most of the dates are full, but we are specifically looking for a couple with good handyperson skills for a long stay from about August 10 to September 10-ish.
I’m a graphic designer and co-owner of our neighbourhood cafe. I travel half the year (digital nomad) and have had the benefit of great hosts, cultural exchanges, and friendships around the world and would love to offer a place to stay and help you get to know life in Vancouver.
Strengths: Great shared house with nice housemates, your room is not luxurious, a garage converted to guest room just outside of the main house, but it's large, private and comfortable. Full flexibility, come and go as you like -- three hours per day five days a week, but no specific work times, prepare your own meals when you like. Great for digital nomads -- good wifi and a few options for workspaces, including our cafe a few blocks away.
Weaknesses: Suits independent people who can self-direct, find their own way around, and who can choose a work task and see it through to completion without much supervision. The room is in a converted garage, not glamorous but comfortable and private.
If you have specific skills or experience in home repair we’d love to hear about it.Types of help and learning opportunities

We are warm and welcoming and you'll enjoy the chance to see some of Vancouver and connect with other travellers. I've lived in Vancouver all my life and look forward to sharing our knowledge about the culture and history, and on great things to do while you're here. I travel half time around the rest of the world and am always happy to share experiences with new friends. We love staying connected, and if you're passing through town on your way back from your travels we'd love to see you again.
Help
Up to three hour hours per day, five days a week, no work on travel dates. You will have a chance to choose from a range of tasks so you can pick what you're skilled at or interested in and that you can work on independently.

We live in a three-storey, three-bedroom townhouse in East Vancouver. You will have a private room ( converted garage) with a double sofa bed, and go into the main house to use the shared bathroom. We have in-house laundry, great wifi, and a fully stocked kitchen. A vehicle is useful and there is street parking.
What else ...
We are located in East Vancouver, about 45 minutes from the airport on bus/skytrain, and about 20 minutes by bus to downtown. Walkable neighbourhood with a great park and great public transportation to get around Vancouver.
