    Description

Currently looking for preferably one female volunteer only for at least two weeks.

Do craft , reading and photo preparation activities for a bright active 99 year old woman - former skier and triathlete . This involves cataloging of family photographs , curating low vision reading materials and organizing personal papers. There is no direct care involved.Help with cooking and cleaning as required. I am a doctor involved in rural health care projects. I also have a home in Banff. We live on the water in North Vancouver. Our household consists of myself, my mother Kate and a full time caregiver. There is close access to skiing hiking , climbing and all water sports . Bus stop is a 4 minute walk from the home. Downtown Vancouver about 30 minutes away.

The host will be present at all times during the two week stay. The home has full time care staff who provide all the physical care such as lifting ,personal care and meal preparation. The main focus of the workaway is on preparation activities do the mother crafts materials preparation , low vision materials preparation and set up. Perhaps the workaway has special talents that they would like to share.

As stated above the workaway will have many opportunities to live fully within our family unit for meals outings and even trips to our other homes. The learnings are many : from a culturally aware elder , from a diverse and talented staff and from a host who has practiced a lifetime of collaboration and teaching many things.

Our home is adjacent to the Tseil-Waututh nation and on the shores of Burrard Inlet. This place is recognized as a place of deep cultural significance. The host will introduce and guide the workaway to cultural activities of significance and the importance of truth and reconciliation in Canadian and First Nations culture.

All the staff are from the Philippines and there are many opportunities to learn Tagalog and regional cuisine. We are a fun inclusive household and always welcome our guests and treat them as part of our family. As you can see we have excellent accommodations ( separate bathroom and bedroom) with beautiful views and direct beach access. We expect in return a respectful energetic non smoker who do not regularly engage in the party lifestyle. We all look forward to welcoming you to spend time with us .
